My point being that critics were a result, not a cause of intense pixar fandom.

No one knew who "Pixar" was when Toy Story came out. It was mainly because everyone loved that film that the studio gained such a fanbase, and it continued to grow as they kept releasing good films.

I object to internet posters and/or critics being called their "die-hard" fans. These movies are made for the parents who bring their multiple children to the theatre. Not the YA (mostly) who latched on a long time ago and believe that their connection to the internet makes them superior fans to the broader GA.

MU was the most perfect movie they've made since TS3, it erased the obvious production flaws of the past two films. Why are people still complaining?

Disagree with the notion that Pixar is only aiming for parents and children and not the general audience.  Their films are chock full of nods, cues, allusions, puns, and situations that adults will enjoy.  I thought the incinerator scene in TS3 scared me!  There are tons of scenes like that.  I don't think Lassetter ever planned on catering to children.  He wanted to make great stories...that happened to come in animated form.  The more cynical side of the same argument can make the case that with $200 million budgets Pixar know full well they need to make films that appeal to the entire age range.

I've never quite gotten the desire for an Incredibles sequel. The original was fine on its own. We need a sequel cause it's superheroes?

Pretty much, yeah.

Smart of them to announce it at the same time as the Cars sequel to soften the nerdrage.
