What kind of weekend does that likely point to? $70M+?

Total spitball, because I'm sure @a2k or whoever can do this better than I can, but on the low end:

19M Fri

30.4M Sat (+60%)

21.9M Sun (-28%)

71.3M (-53.5%)

Maybe Saturday or Sunday could be more muted, but I'd say 68 is the floor here.

That would be a pretty underwhelming Fri to Thur increase. Let’s see how things go in a couple hours.

You do know that this thursday was abnormal day compared to the rest of the MCU and other recent March releases? It rose about 8% from the wednesday number of 8,586m and this will be 112% increase after such unusual weekdays is amazing.

Yup.  Take away the Thursday increase and it will end up right in the range of normal Friday increases.

Pretty sure this scenario was specifically mentioned in the Thursday thread 😂

Aaww. 🥺

But clearly a bad trailer...must mean it results to a...bad movie, right? 🤔

Not neccesarily. Ive seen plenty of bad trailers for good movies (see Star Trek: Beyond). But that WP trailer is just a total mess and exhausting to watch.

Actually $19mn is great number. Someone had given me that on Friday 8th March, I would have taken open arms.

And if you compare that to movies in the MCU that made 179m and 174m have had that 2nd friday numbers compared to a movie which opened to 153m.

Isn't this from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge? Loved it.

Is 19 million locked and if yes, can it increase?

For comparisons's sake, The Hunger Games did 18 million on its second Friday (went on to do 58 million for the weekend) whereas Guardians of the Galaxy did 16 million and went on to do 65 million for the weekend so it is dependent on what kind of increase it will have on Saturday. If 19 million ends up being the final number for Captain Marvel, I expect 60-70 million.

I expect a 3.85x internal multiple for 2nd weekend, so that gives $73-75mn.

I will be happy with $71mn, that will make it almost certain to cross Wonder Woman.

Even if it somehow doesn't, it's still beating it Worldwide.

Naah. I need that. One MCU solo film over Wonder Woman.

I know BP did that but that many attributes to cultural phenomenon thing. This is purely gonna be Marvel power with just good film.

I expected the trailer effect to last throughout the whole weekend, as compared to only on Thursday, and therefore I expected the Fri to Thur increase to be normal, as compared to muted. We just had different assumptions. You can stop being so judgmental.

Deadline updated further

Greta did $350K for previews, so Captive State should open in the ballpark of that movie.

Love, Simon meanwhile did $850K, so FFA reaching double digits will be tricky.

I saw that Everything, Everything made 11.7M off of 515K previews, so FFA might stand a good chance of 10M+ still.

Ouch for Captive State though.

So Wonder Women wasn't what BP was? Not the same, but similar for sure.
