It wouldn't shock me if AE comes in below 6M by Sunday. I expect to be somewhat frontloaded.

i just rechecked numbers at the 5 local theaters that are playing it around me and all of them have sold fewer tickets than they did for Friday at this point. I don't have a showing today that has sold more than 37 tickets and most of the showings are in the single digit ticket sales.

I had a 4-6M range for the weekend and I am still thinking in that range.

I think Saturday's increase is going to be pretty muted (I believe the hardcore fans went out and saw it yesterday - and some of those same fans will probably see it again today). Sunday's sales around me are really anemic (total pre-sales for Sunday right now at the 5 theaters combined is 66 tickets across 15 showings and 1,716 total seats available - 10 of the 15 shows have 2 or fewer sold seats including all 5 shows that start after 5 pm.)

Something like

1.86

2.232 (+20)

1.675 (-25)

5.767

Would not surprise me.

FWIW, Deadline has a good article on this re-release. It's not really a worldwide re-release. It's primarily the US and some, but hardly all of the OS markets.

https://deadline.com/2019/06/avengers-endgame-re-release-avatar-record-spider-man-far-from-home-box-office-1202639520/

This weekend’s new cut of Endgame is primarily a domestic play largely pushed by a digital marketing campaign. Abroad, the pic will play in Latin America (Mexico), UK/Ireland, Germany, Spain, Russia and some Asian Pacific corridor countries including Australia/New Zealand and Japan.

Japan doesnt have the "re-release"

Are you really laughing at what MBFGW did in it's box office run?

only people laughing at it are those who weren't there to witness it when it first came out. People like me and you that were around when it came out were absolutely stunned and flabbergasted at the run that ended up having. remember when it opened to something like 50 Grand or whatever it was and then it just kept going and going and going like the Energizer Bunny.

I cannot imagine if BoT existed in the Titanic madness , seeing all the members got panic attack from Titanic's 28m opening and barely hold off 007's film to number 1 opening, only to see the "meltdown" afterwards.

Maybe @baumer wrote it or compiled it, but there was this amazing thread at box office mojo that did a weekly recap of Titanic’s run.  We would react to each weekly recap as if it was happening in real time.  One of the best threads ever.

$6M Weekend for Endgame,

not bad but lower than the initial prediction from both Deadline and Variety

Nothing is over yet so it's likely going to be closer to 7M or over. but either way, the number is great, no way to spin it otherwise. There's still interest in the movie so they should (and will) keep it in the theaters as long as it takes.

Any hope Aladdin ends up with higher gross than TS4?

@tawasal it's definitely going to be when the weekend is over.

Star Wars only reached $221.3m in its original run (May 1977-July 1978). The rest is from re-releases in 1978, 1980 and 1981 that BOM doesn’t split out.

(Though the 1978 re-release was technically a re-expansion where all existing engagements closed on Thursday and all new ones started on Friday - save for one theater in Portland, OR whose booking contract for the film contained a clause allowing them to play it as long as it met a certain BO performance threshold, obligating Fox to let them keep it even after the 1978 run officially ended! I believe the two runs combined to $265.1 million.)

Also, Jaws did not make a round $260 million in its original run. That includes re-releases whose individual totals are not documented. According to an article on CinemaTreasures.com in honor of Jaws’ 35th anniversary, it grossed about $192 million in its original run. I haven’t figured out what reissues specifically account for the additional $68 million, but that’s the only number I can find.

And Empire also had a 1981 re-release that BOM doesn’t split out. The weekend grosses on The-Numbers.com stop in August 1980 at $145M, and resume in July 1981 with $7M to a total of $188.35M, so my guess is that the first run was $181,353,855 (subtracting the weekend of 7/31/81 from the cumulative total shown for that wknd). But this number isn’t circulated, it’s my own guess deducing from the available info.

The lower first-run totals for Star Wars and Jaws would increase their wide OW % of total (3.1% with just the ‘77 run/2.6% with the ‘78 run added, and 3.2%, respectively) but would not change their rankings. The lower total for Empire, however, would push its % up to about 6.0%, dropping it down to just between Ghostbusters and Home Alone. (But it would still be the leggiest sequel ever.)

And one more thing they don't get, is that this was in 2002 and 2003. It was really unheard of legs and run for a movie in that period, dare I say unimaginable.
