EXCLUSIVE: Ridley Scott has committed to direct a film about the tumultuous Gucci family fashion dynasty and the murder of the grandson of founder Guccio Gucci. Lady Gaga is attached to star as Patrizia Reggiani, the ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci, who was tried and convicted of orchestrating her ex-husband’s assassination on the steps of his office in 1995. She served 18 years before being let out of jail in 2016.

It is the first project Lady Gaga has attached herself to since her Best Actress nomination in a breakout turn opposite Bradley Cooper in A Star Is Born. She won an Oscar for writing the song Shallow, one of a number of hits on the soundtrack. The combination of actress and director is already starting to draw interest but the first stop will be Fox/Disney, where Scott Free has its first look, and where Scott will next direct The Last Duel, with Matt Damon, Adam Driver, Jodie Comer and Ben Affleck in a coproduction between Scott Free and Pearl Street.

The Gucci murder tale is scripted by Roberto Bentivegna, based on the Sara Gay Forden book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed. Scott plans to move quickly to direct the film after he first helms The Last Duel. He will produce the Gucci saga with Giannina Scott, and Scott Free Productions.

This sounds interesting.

Considering that it's Ridley Scott we're talking about, I'll only have faith in it happening when the cameras start rolling (other than that, it's possible this could be his follow-up to The Last Duel).

The Deadline article literally says Ridley plans to make this movie shortly after he wraps The Last Duel. But then, Scott has been attached to many projects that ended up not happening with him at the helm, so, stay tuned, I guess. In terms of subject matter, this Gucci story doesn't seem all that far removed from All the Money in the World, which I liked except for Wahlberg. His filmography is kind of all over the place in a good way.

Thought for sure the next Gaga album would be out well before there was solid news about her next movie role. Anyway, sounds like a part that could be a big contender for a Best Actress win.

I feel like Scott and Spielberg are trying one-up each other in the 'announcing films they never end up doing' department.

When you have a whole Wikipedia page devoted to projects you never ended up doing, it gets kinda-sorta out of hand.

Though Ridley Scott still has to finish shooting his period drama The Last Duel, his follow-up is looking to land a monster cast. We are hearing Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Jack Huston and Reeve Carney are all in talks to join MGM’s GucciLady Gaga is attached to star as Patrizia Reggiani, the ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci, who was tried and convicted of orchestrating her ex-husband’s assassination on the steps of his office in 1995. Adam Driver and Lady Gaga in the same movie :ohmygod:

I have a sneak suspicion that awards forums are going gaga over this prospect. they are full of both performers' stans so comments should be fun. Gotta take a weekend to just go through reactions.
