The Marvels | November 10, 2023 | Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enter

Yeah that $71-$118 range feels pretty reasonable though I would personally guess somewhere between $85-$105 if forced to narrow that range down. Reaching Guardians 3 levels feels unlikely, I don't think Captain Marvel is as popular as those characters (but I do think she's more popular than Ant Man). If I had to guess, I think presales will play out like a smaller version of Guardians 3, the question is how much smaller.

And then the big question marks for me are the reviews and fan screenings. Post Quantumania, it seems like the MCU has a large part of its fanbase that will wait to hear if a movie is good before committing after being burned too many times post-Endgame. Otherwise, it becomes a wait for Disney+ for them. Guardians 3 feels like the ceiling for reviews as well. Quantumania or worse reviews is the one scenario where it seems like this movie could go into freefall. Does Marvel have the confidence in this one to do early fan screenings in the face of flagging presales like they did with Guardians 3? The same with lifting the review embargo early? That seemed like it really helped that film (though hard to fully separate from other factors) but only works if they have a winner. The Flash and Indiana Jones illustrate the dangers of lifting embargos too soon for movies that don't have it.

Why are people constantly acting like this thread is some kind of unique dumpster fire when it’s really rather tame and civil?

I don’t spend a lot of time in other threads this far out or if I will never see it I almost always stay out of threads when my main purpose would be to say, “I don’t feel buzz for a movie that would never interest me.”

(Sound of Freedom was an exception because it was an abomination that deserved mockery.)
I guess I’m fascinated by how many people are (arguably) concern trolling. Separately, I think some of the conversation is driven by girls-are-icky thinking.

Part of my optimism over the OW/start is that the field should be pretty open.
11/3 -Priscilla from A24

10/27 - Friday Night at Freddy’s

10/20 - Killers of the Flower Moon

10/13 - Taylor Swift concert movie

FNAF and KOTFM will do well, but seem like pretty different audiences. Due respect to Priscilla, but the 11/3 weekend allows for more burn off in interest everything else.
Taylor movie will be massive of course. Certainly some overlap in audience or at least hoped for audience. I give big credit to anyone who correctly predicts Taylor movie well. Seems like legs would burn out but we are merely living in her world so… I don’t know.
Will seeing Marvels trailers push interest from young female fans? Maybe wishful thinking. We’ll see.

Swift won't be as big by the time this releases. Idk if they're playing trailers in front of it.

Here in Germany I asked my Cinema on instagram and they said that they would still play ads and trailers before it. (Maybe a bit less than normal)

Right now, there are a bunch of openers on 11/10 - not sure how many will pick up screens or be wide, but I do expect Journey to Bethlehem and The Holdovers to go wide and take screens (one b/c it's been advertising and the other b/c it's already booked at both my Cinemarks)...

Questions…

If a character is older in a sequel, are they really the same character or is the character older by virtue of being older?

Has it ever happened in a CBM or any movie that a character has been recast because the movie is set when the character’s age is different?

Ant-Man 3.  I have not nor do I intend to see it, but that was not well received at all.

Honestly, I wouldn’t call it a dumpster fire, but rather a bore. There was a stretch there of like 10 pages or something where the same discussions were had over and over again, crazy how we all like to repeat ourselves.

Ps: “If it is boring why don’t you stay away?”. Yeah…. I don’t have a good answer to that. Maybe because there is some good stuff in it too and I really want this movie to be fun? idk

What is going on in the Marvel marketing department that anyone thought that voiceover was a good idea?

Are people... unfamiliar with this guy? Because voiceover in trailers, including with this specific guy, is incredibly common. I think every major blockbuster in the last 10 years at least he's done spots for, especially Disney.

just realized the possible synergy for a Tuesday ticket drop:

Dancing With the Stars promotion strategy of some sort or another.  Don't know if they'll wait 'till the evening to officially release the trailer/announce ticket sales or do a GMA tie-in in the morning with more promotion on DWtS.  Probably the former, but can't rule out the latter.

Either way, betting that's the angle that the Disney Marketing Overlords are going for here.

if the SAG strike is not resolved before the release, I am expecting Feige to be uber active appearing in all late night talk shows for sure.

Well Dacosta can still do promo. As for the actors, it's sounding like it'll be longer than expected, so if they do it'll be very short notice. Maybe they have some stuff pretaped?
