BOT's Top 100 Films of the 2010s | Still accepting last-minute lists

As for the ranking thing, that's what the tiers are for! Particularly for relieving the headache as much as possible when it comes to the bottom 50. So you can still shuffle things around before the deadline if you're so inclined. If not, 'sall good.

Yeah, I'm not doing that. The reason I don't vote for most of the countdowns on this site is that I overthink myself to death and give up before I even make my list. You can already count it as final.

My reaction when I found out that 2 of my 2009 faves are eligible after I locked down my 100.

Didn't know others have Drug War on their list. Saw it yesterday (first Johnnie To film). Contains two of the best shootout scenes ever and it was way more brutal than I expected. Also had some really nice criticism of the Chinese police force. I'm watching Don't Go Breaking My Heart (completely different kind of film but I loved it too) today and watching and Romancing in the Air tomorrow, both from Johnnie To.

Drug War and Don't Go Breaking My Heart are both on my list. Top-shelf examples of their respective genres, and I'm sure if more BOTers saw them they would agree. Prime FYC material.

Don't Go Breaking My Heart has way more energy to it than the any modern day romcom (Johnnie To brings many of his action sensibilities I noticed when watching Drug War to this movie more often than I expected) and also has some geniune emotional value to it. Definitely one of the genre's best. Is the sequel any good?

Edit: Also holy shit, the frog.

I steered clear of the sequel after seeing that some of the critics I follow most closely were seriously disappointed by it. Looking at LB, it does have a handful of auteurist fans... Then again, so does Romancing in Thin Air, and I did not enjoy that one.

Two weeks and a few hours left to submit your lists!

Who knows where we'll all be in that time, but for now this remains on track. I know this is not the most comfortable time to catch up with and/or rank movies, and plenty of us have much more pressing concerns - still, if you're interested and want to find some distraction by participating in what should hopefully be another fun BOT countdown, you're very welcome.

Don't know if I'll have the energy to come up with a top 100 but I'll certainly put together a top 20-25 soon now with the (depressing given the circumstances) extended amount of time now available.

Hope you can extend that to at least 30

Some FYCs for anyone looking for things to watch rn. Mostly on the lighter/entertaining/life-affirming side. Mostly.

My favorite movie of at least the past 15 years, sadly also a victim of contract-related lawsuits to the point where it never had remotely the release it deserved and has had to fight for virtually every viewer. Not a breezy watch, but in its own way one of the most inspiring films I know. Extended cut (3 hours) streams on Amazon Prime, maybe other places as well.

See discussion above. Two exceptional films from the same director. As an action movie, Drug War outdoes everything Hollywood has served up in the past decade save for MMFR, also has the best pair of lead performances in the genre since Face/Off. Don't Go Breaking My Heart is maybe the best modern romcom, energetic, smart, charming as hell.

A "we're all connected" drama done right. No pathos or histrionics, just a lot of sympathetic observation and love for people who keep the world going, each little piece building on the one before.

Have had this on my watchlist for a few months and watching this sometime this weekend. Will be my 2nd Miike film (after Audition). Was hoping to watch his newest film too but I don't think its out on digital yet.

LOVED the last hour of 13 Assassins, wasn't a huge fan of the rest (it wasn't bad, just servicable). Also has one of the most evil villains from the last decade imo. Been a long time since I've found a movie character so detestable. Could get in my top 100 list (I have a few spots for a bunch of 8/10 films and this could get in there). Feel like this could have gone somewhere high on my list if Miike didn't hold back on the gore and if the build-up to the phonomenal final battle was a bit shorter.

There are a few films from 2011 I need to catch up with before I compile my list. I had thought for a while that it was a year of many really good films but not many great ones. However, I've heard very strong things about Margaret, A Separation, Take Shelter and Detachment so I'm going to try and watch all of those before submitting my picks.

I 've seen all 4, the first 3 are def worth it but Detachment is one of the worst cases of misery porn I remember this decade. A truly god awful movie.

HOLY SHIT, Magic Mike XXL surprised me so much. Most likely going into my top 15 of the decade, maybe even top 10. Geniunely the most joyful movie I've seen in a long, long time. The movie has practically no story to it and almost no conflict but it does a brilliant job at portraying sexuality and masculanity (espescially the way men interact with women and even more so, each other) in such a wonderful and celebratory way, that I just couldn't help but smile throughout the whole movie.
