filmlover
Looks like the chains aren't happy about the Trolls decision since it was made on really short notice (20 minutes before they announced it to the world):

Are any of the X-Men films on Disney+? I’d have to assume a Hulu release would be more likely.

Eric the Clown
https://www.indiewire.com/2020/03/onward-vod-charts-box-office-cheaper-rentals-1202219626/ This was an interesting read through. Hopefully this is a reoccurring thing. Quote We don’t have the tools to make detailed assessments of VOD performance. However, we do have data of value. We looked at the charts made available Sunday morning from three major VOD providers: iTunes, Amazon Prime, and Spectrum Cable, as well as Netflix’s own chart (which includes all programming, not just feature films). They all have top 10 lists (and further rankings, except Netflix). Several major caveats: All but Spectrum seem to change daily, so take this as a snapshot. None provide actual numbers of rentals. And since they reflect all releases, irrespective of price, it’s not a clear reflection of revenue. iTunes Onward (Disney) Jumanji: The Next Level (Sony) Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Disney) Contagion (Warner Bros.) Knives Out (Lionsgate) Spies in Disguise (20th Century Fox) Bombshell (Lionsgate) A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (Sony) Ford v Ferrari (20th Century Fox) 1917 (Universal) Amazon Jumanji: The Next Level (Sony) Knives Out (Lionsgate) Bombshell (Lionsgate) Midway (Lionsgate) Uncut Gems (A24) Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Disney) The Greatest Showman (20th Century Fox) Onward (Disney) Frozen II (Disney) A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (Sony) Spectrum Bombshell (Lionsgate) Frozen II (Disney) Knives Out (Lionsgate) Jumanji: The Next Level (Sony) Spies in Disguise (20th Century Fox) Uncut Gems (A24) Ford v Ferrari (20th Century Fox) Midway (Lionsgate) Dark Waters (Focus) A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (Sony) Netflix Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker (limited series) All American (episodic series) Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness (limited series) Spenser Confidential (feature film) Love Is Blind (episodic series) 2012 (feature film) Pandemic (episodic series) 100 Humans. Life’s Questions. Answered (episodic series) Boss Baby: Back in Business (episodic series) On My Block (episodic series) At least looking at Apple and Amazon, those lists have changed a little bit. As of 12AM EST, Invisible Man got into the top 10, 1917 got kicked out, and Spies in Disguise moved down a few numbers. With Amazon, Uncut Gems and Rise of Skywalker switched places. Apple 1. Onward 2. Jumanji: The Next Level 3. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker 4. Contagion 5. The Invisible Man 6. Knives Out 7. Bombshell 8. Ford v Ferrari 9. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood 10. Spies in Disguise Amazon 1. Jumanji: The Next Level 2. Knives Out 3. Bombshell 4. Midway 5. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker 6. Uncut Gems 7. The Greatest Showman 8. Onward 9. Frozen II 10. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood Might try and do this as a daily thing for the time being, since nobody else will do it.
filmlover
It makes sense given its timeliness, but it sure is funny seeing the almost-decade old Contagion sticking out like a sore thumb on lists completely made up of movies that are just a few months (and not even a month, in the case of some movies) old. Also The Greatest Showman still charting nearly 2.5 years after its release. When Disney/20th Century get around to making the inevitable sequel in a few years it's destined to explode. wildphantom
The Trolls decision looks like insanity to me. almost like Universal just throwing money away. That movie would have done well whatever time of year they released it. I’m wondering whether the fact it had already released in a few countries was the main factor? They can’t control any leaked content, so sitting on the movie for the rest of the world might make them believe people would seek it out by other means? regardless, releasing just to rent for twenty bucks, when parents can buy Onward for the same, or wait two weeks to have it on Disney+....... hmmmm. I’m really not sold on this $20 VOD trial. Just let people buy the movies. Trolls 2 for 20 bucks for keeps though in April - now that would make more sense. Some countries like Australia won't be doing PVOD and pushing it to the fall...so piracy even more of a factor there. But maybe it came down to it being a family title, they'll be more cautious about returning to theatres after the virus

I noticed on iTunes UK that these new films have lots of 1 star reviews... from people who haven’t seen the film, their reviews are “it’s too expansive, I’m not paying it” ummm that doesn’t have anything to do with the quality of the films.
