I agree with @Derby Legion IM.

Batman, in fact DC is previews heavier than Marvel.

Film Previews Friday % Share
Batman Begins
The Dark Knight $18.50 $67.16 27.55%
The Dark Knight Rises $30.64 $75.75 40.45%

Man of Steel $21.00 $68.13 30.82%
Batman v Superman $27.70 $81.56 33.96%
Suicide Squad $20.50 $64.89 31.59%
Wonder Woman $11.00 $38.25 28.76%
Justice League $13.00 $38.47 33.79%
Aquaman $9.00 $27.73 32.46%
Shazam $5.90 $20.35 28.99%
Birds of Prey $4.00 $12.96 30.86%
Wonder Woman 1984   $7.48 0.00%
The Suicide Squad $4.10 $12.10 33.88%

Joker $13.30 $39.35 33.80%
The Batman $20.00 $51.30 39.00%

I don't think those 2 days of early access really gonna change things much because almost every one of those would have watched it on THU or may be $500k worth on FRI/SAT.

I have been thinking

19-21
29-34
37-44
25-32

Total - 110-131

Yeah everyone would have watched Thursday or Friday but there’s still a difference between seeing on Tuesday in IMAX during evening with inflated pricing and seeing Thursday at 3 and saving $10. I think that could make an impact of sorts

Yeah. I think a 45 day window is pretty clear, but I also doubt it matters much. Overlap between people who would go OW and those who wanna wait 45 days is probably pretty small.

If HBO max is a free access, instead of PVOD, then the incentive is bigger and that will be more impactful.  Also, the empty March probably will give Batman some solid hold until Apr 19. The overlap between OW and HBO max crowd can be small but not so much for subsequent week

I don’t like all these obligatory and widely promoted streaming date before the movie has even lifted its embargo. So far I think Disney have the best approach among all aside from their pathetic treatment to Pixar release . They are keeping streaming debut date in the dark until later stage and give flexible window according to their box office run, like 60 days for KM, about 70 days for eternals and SC. That being said,  I hope every studio be like Sony.

I'm not gonna say today was an amazing day, but this was the first day ever that NWH's comp actually increased, which does make me a bit more intrigued that things will perk up compared to the negativity people had today. But of course, this depends on if this increased momentum continues, which I can't guarantee will happen.

Always fun when Fandango breaks part way through your run and then one has to then go to five different corp sites and navigate them all to get seat counts. :sadfleck:

Even funner when one has around 170 showtimes still to check and thus dragging out your count by an hour*. :sadfleck: :sadfleck:

* Well, more like 40-45 minutes, but who's counting?

I am gonna be that person to plug stuff. ATOM Tickets is your saviour for Century/Cinemark since you have many of those in Sacramento.

So, I don't know if The Batman Tuesday 3/1 showings are full sell outs at AMC...but TMobile is gonna run their $2 any ticket deal again next 3/1 on Atom...so if they really allow early Bats shows (and don't put in some sort of "limited provision" between now and then), just list every single seat for The Batman sold out for AMC theaters now...

PS - Yes, it should be another good Tuesday at AMC/Cinemark on 3/1...I doubt the deal continues on 3/8 (it was a very good idea to get through the 2 weeks til Bats - I may even see another movie next week:)...

NOPE!

First off, that still doesn't cover Regal or Cinema West, which approaches half of my market.

Secondly, haven't figured out the source shortcut for that website (was on the verge of trying to figure it out last night but didn't have the time — might now finally decide to sit down and figure it out).

But more importantly, out of all of them, Cinemark's website is decent enough that I'd rather just use that than Atom's.  Only real value Atom has it is that I can get SMG and Cinemark at the same time. Well that and it doesn't combine DBOX showings like Cinemark does. But since I only have one Studio Movie Grill locally plus I don't have a list of theaters saved on Atom's website, still easier for me just to head over to Cinemark in cases like last night.

Don't get me wrong, I hear what you're saying.  And if I knew the shortcut for Atom's website it might be fractionally worth it not to deal with combined DBOX showings.  But I still had a ton of other corps to deal with that Atom sadly doesn't cover.  And even then, I'm not in love with how I can't bring up a showing on Atom in a separate window which means I have to bounce back and forth on their website, which adds up time in a hurry.

And, ultimately, it's that last complaint which is the deal breaker.  If I can pull up a showing in a separate window, I can go BANG-BANG-BANG-BANG through showtimes like a machine gun. Especially as I now have a method which has shaved seconds here and there off my check time to make it as efficient as possibly without actually running some sort of script like some of the other folks here do.

It might not seem like much to have to hit the back button repeatedly on a site to pull up times, but when there's over a 100 showtimes, or worse 200 to 300+, that time adds up fast.

Just haven't figured out how to make Atom "worth it", really.  Though if I have many more times like last night, I might be forced to...

Can you include Venom: LTBC as a comp?

@Porthos I think Sacramento may be under indexing for DC. I remember you saying so for Joker, may be it is case for all of them. How about incorporating a TSS comp. It will be quite off but still.

May be Joker too.

Under-indexed for TSS as well.  Joker too for that matter, as you said (though that was against 2019/18 comps and you are well aware of my stance on the value of those).

Might still pull up a TSS comp, mind.  But I don't know how much value it'd be given the difference in up-front sales.  Still think Dune is gonna be better, but I don't know if it's time yet to pull the trigger on that comp.

But, sure, might start pulling in some other comps as well as dropping NWH tonight.

Ultimately do think there is something to either Sacramento under-indexing DC films OR it over-indexing Marvel ones.  At the same time, only on my third DC film I've tracked, so the sample size is 1) small enough not to make a final judgement and 2) all three films have enough weirdness (content, size, and rollout respectively) going on that I'm not quite ready to count out Sacto when it comes to DC flicks.

Venom 2 had a very late surge thanks to fan screenings which could mean that any comps for it right now will be off.

V2 didn't really blast off until the Sunday before release.  Well enough, but certainly not a double digit opening release.

What I like about ATOM is it give all the shows of one cinema in same tab.

So just open inspect element, search "unavailable2" I think and keep changing showtimes.

Well, see the problem here is the way I have set up my own workflow is set up entirely differently.  I’d have to figure out how to maximize that way of doing it and getting the showtimes efficiently.

Ultimately, it’s shifting from one way of doing things to another which is a gigantic PITA.  But, still, as I said, I might sit down and figure out how to maximize my workflow over on Atom for when this sort of shit happens in the future.
