I think the only issue with this might be just that we have a somewhat irregular snapshot of the data, so the model's adjustments will likely be worse at first than some of the gut predictions of the trackers, but it should get better over time. It will be interesting to see how close you're able to get. 

Those who are aware with Maoyan in China thread, it will be like their predictions. A bit weird/abnormal at first then start making a bit more sense near release.

Is Maoyan all automated? Anyway enough handcrafting the model with expert knowledge could avoid that, though some purists may object.

You could use something like @Inceptionzq's Drafthouse numbers, which has just not previews but the full weekend spread, and get pretty good at outputting the entire opening weekend breakdown and gross from just the pre-sales data, without having to rely as much on extra inputs like genre. I was working on something similar back when the Fandango sales tracking data was available; feel free to DM if you want more info

Angel has Fallen (21.4M OW) had 159 sold tickets in 6 theaters (= 2.385 sold tickets for Top Gun 2 in the same 6 theaters),

F9 (70M OW) had 1.656 sold tickets (but good jumps till Thursday) in 7 theaters

and Midways's (17.9M OW) final number on Thursday was 497, also in 7 theaters.
