@Menor Reborn was right; I should have accounted for Easter Sunday yesterday, though I do think the local total was low even when accounting for that.  But brain fart on my part regardless.

Nice bounce back day today, though it's only more or less back to where it was on Saturday (BP2 comp did inch up, ftr).  Which I suppose reinforces Menor's point about shitty pace.

Let's see if there is a slight bump the next couple of days ala post-4th of July or if this was just a one day course correction.

@Porthos, Can you run a script for Suzume if possible :(

No scripts on my end, so I have to do it all manually.

Did take a very quick look-see, but the problem is I don't have anything to comp it to.  I almost never track anime (last one I did was Demon Slayer the Movie and that was a casual track that I didn't save, regardless) and I'm not even sure what genre would be good to cross check it against.  Mostly since I don't know its pre-sale pattern locally (i.e. how frontloaded/backloaded it might be or how various genres of anime do in Sacramento compared to the rest of the DOM market).

Has sold 391/4968 tickets [7.87% sold] for Thursday shows as of about 45 minutes ago.  If folks want to try to give me a film or genre to comp it against, I can try to finesse something and let you know when I log-in in the morning.

But not many sales, regardless (though, again, not knowing how anime in general does locally does make this an exercise in guesswork and thus probably not all that helpful)

1st local set for the weekend.

Mario is looking to have a very good 2nd weekend set wise - it keeps ALL 5 screens it started with at the end of presales (before showings were swiped as days went) last weekend and all PLF except a very late 3d show tossed to a foreign film NOT named Suzume.  So, it's 25 showings total - 13 PLF, 12 not.

In other news, the theater is opening a BUNCH of movies, so holdovers got killed (b/c Mario didn't).  Mafia Mama, Renfield, Suzume, The Pope's Exorcist, and Shaakuntalam (the one PLF show) all get 1 screen, so that's 10 screens used.

So, here's the holdovers left...

Air - 1.50 screens

DnD - 1.25 screens

JW3 - 1 screen

Jesus - .25 screens (it gets the early on Air)

That's it for holdovers - they got the Spring Break run last week, and no more (DnD may now FINALLY have a chance - this theater must hope so!) - so, drops are Creed III, Scream VI, and Shazam - aka, all the early March movies...

So, 1st female and family oriented T-Mobile deal coming in late April (and this one with a lot of warning vs Air's one week notice).

Are You There, God?  It's Me, Margaret will be getting the $5 any ticket (including PLF) on April 25.

As we've seen, these deals have increased last minute tracking and then weekend performance (and even leg performance) thanks to WOM.  But those were for all guy-focused movies.  Should be interesting to see what kinda effect we have for this movie, which I assumed was pretty much DOA, after the Mario juggernaut took all the family money this weekend.

2023 TMobile deal movies

Plane

Creed 3

Wick 4

Air

AYTGIMM (I can't write it again, we need an acronym or something:)

This isn’t aimed at families though, more like the Crawdads crowd

Article about it compares to previous GOTG installments-my note of interest was that it will be the longest GOTG at almost 2 and a half hours. Be interesting to see how that plays into how the theatres assign their movie times

I don't this so - I just went back to watch the ARTGIMM trailer, and this trailer is played so straight to the book, and the book (at least in my childhood) was an 8-12 year old female read book...I really think this is going for 8-88 female and skews way younger than Crawdads material...

MTC1 Friday - 43683/1265855 808565.59 6854 shows +1396

Sunday's sales normally suck but these are levels I have not see for past 4 MCU sequels. Let us see if it recovers on Monday.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3

MTC1 Thursday(T-24) - 87188/1147517 1567251.16 7014 shows +1730

MTC1 Friday - 45387/1269091 838167.45 6872 shows +1704

I guess it kind of recovered. Still the pace is anemic compared to previous MCU sequels.

GotG3, counted today for Friday, May 5. 24 days to go.

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 327 (13 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 263 (20 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 41 (19 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9):
9 (8 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11):
14 (12 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16):
419 (22 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal):
457 (29 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in
7 theaters: 1.530.

Up modest 18% since last Wednesday.
Comps (all films counted for Friday): TSS (8M true Friday) had with 20 days left 585 sold tickets,
Uncharted (11.7M) had with 16 days left 276 sold tickets
and SC (20.7M) had on Tuesday of the release week (= 21 days left for GotG3 to overtake) 2.672 sold tickets.
Not as bad as elsewhere but also no big jump or buzz so far.

Tomorrow I take a closer look at Renfield and The Pope's Exorcist. But from what I saw today both films had quite good Thursday presales to my surprise, especially Renfield.
The Pope's Exorcist was in front of Prey for the Devil and Renfield had ca. 2x the presales of Massive Talent at the same time. I really wonder if this continues...

Posting just so this isn't another movie that does well that no one say coming, like the Chosen group's movie...

A for Adley: Lost in the Movies is releasing at my local Cinemarks for morning shows on April 21's weekend.  This is apparently a Youtuber's animated creation and their 1st movie and it looks targeted at 1-7 year olds.  Supposedly, this Youtuber has 4.5M fans...I have NO IDEA if this will make $10 or $1M, but after missing His Only Son, well, I figured I'd try not to miss another movie in the same month...

GOTG Vol3 MTC2 Thursday - 49044/587674 703531.51 3733 shows

Definite boost today compared to yesterday. Still well behind Ant 3. Somewhere equivalent(couple of days ahead) data for Ant is below. Both MTC1/2 are tracking similar percentage(slightly below 3/4th) compared to Ant. Good news is the week beyond were really meh for Ant 3. Let us see how Guardians behave well into its 2nd week of presales.
