That See How They Run projection is so depressing. Was hoping for at least like $4m?? There's 0 reason this pretty well reviewed, fun looking murder mystery shouldn't be able to manage that

I didn't even know what it was until this morning. Was surprised to see that it has a strong cast and decent reviews, with a sort of 'Knives Out Lite' vibe to it. Given the dearth of product right now, I find it strange that there's so little push behind it.

See How They Run is Disney being Disney. The Menu and Amsterdam are next.

Amsterdam is actually being pushed though (I've already seen like a dozen ads on TV this past week and the movie doesn't come out for another three weeks). See How They Run is yet another Searchlight dump between the merely alright reviews (it's in the yellow on MC) and zero awards prospects.

See How They Run actually has little bigger TV marketing that Mrs Harris goes to Paris.

This kind of films need many good reviews to survive (and it is why Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris can gross more than $10m) , and the reviews See How They Run are not good enough.

By the way,  for the Sept 30 openers:

Bros is getting much bigger TV marketing than Smile.

However, Smile was originally a low-budget streaming film (it gets theatrical release only because of good test screening results),  and the P&A seems modest.   I suspect Smile will be profitable if it gross little better than Fall.

If the IMAX near me is anything close to representative of the country as a whole Moonage Daydream is going to make the recent grosses of Jaws and Rogue One seem downright astronomical. It’s barely cracked a three digit PTA for the weekend so far and the chances of it reaching four digits for the PTA seems very low.

I had never any TV spots of "Moonage Daydream".

even Neon's previous release "Fire of Love" had TV spots.  (I watched the TV spots on some TV channels.)

Anticipating I'll be the only person in theater for See How They Run this weekend (glad this movie exists, sad how it is being treated)

If it helps, it’s a #1 hit here in the UK. On a quiet weekend, but still.

on the other topic, I think Smile is going to be big. The only thing going against it here is that it’s been rated an 18. I think younger teens would’ve been all over it.

Salt Lake Valley preview night report for Thurs, Sept 15th, 1:00 PM MST. Cinemark Sugarhouse (Salt Lake City), Cinemark Draper XD, and Cinemark Farmington XD.

See How They Run over indexing, The Woman King under indexing, but pretty much crickets all around. Many of the holdovers haven't even sold a single ticket for tonight. (TGM, as usual, is the exception.)

Total tix sold:

(1) See How They Run 29 (7 showings)

(2) The Woman King 25 (13 showings)

(3) Clerks 19 (3 showings)

(4) Pearl 11 (4 showings)

(I have a limited data set from these three theaters, but for context, by early afternoon of their previews, Nope had sold 301, Super Pets 121, and Bullet Train 112.)

The Woman King, counted today at 11am EST for today, September 15:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 134 (7 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 27 (4 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 2 (4 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 2 (2 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 11 (3 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 102 (5 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 72 (7 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 389.

Up very decent 51.5% since yesterday.
Comps (both counted on Thursday for Thursday): The 355 (350k from previews) had 213 sold tickets
and Beast (925k) had 263 sold tickets.
Of course Beast is the way better comp plus TWK had the better jump till today (Beast jumped only 20.5% back then) so my guess are 2M from previews.

The Woman King, counted today at 11am EST for Friday, September 16:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 282 (10 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 42 (6 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 5(5 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 19 (3 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 7 (3 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 88 (8 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 77 (7 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 6 theaters: 520.

Up very ok 36% since yesterday.
Comps (all counted on Thursday for Friday): Respect (8.8M OW) had 247 sold tickets,
The Northman (12.3M) had 558 sold tickets (but also a way worse last jump),
The 355 (4.6M) had 177 sold tickets,
and Beast (11.6M) had 248 sold tickets.

If it has at least decent walk-ups then it really should reach 20M+.

Pearl had today 196 sold tickets for Thursday (with showtimes in 7 theaters).
Up only 22.5% since yesterday which isn't good for that genre.
Comps (all counted on Thursday for Thursday): X (440k from previews) had 316 sold tickets,
The Forever Purge (1.3M) had 241 sold tickets,
Beast (925k) had 263 sold tickets,
The Invitation (775k) had 218 sold tickets,
The Barbarian (850k)  had 289 sold tickets
and Firestarter (375k) had 171 sold tickets.

And for Friday it had today 195 sold tickets (also with showtimes in 7 theaters).
Up 21% since yesterday.
Comps (all counted on Thursday for Friday): Beast (11.6M OW) had 248 sold ticket,
The Invitation (6.8M) had 204 sold tickets,
Barbarian (10.5M) had 249 sold tickets
and Firestarter (3.8M) had 144 sold tickets.
(Unfortunately again no X comps for that day).

Could have pretty much the same result as X (4.3M OW).

0.394x of Nope (2.52M)

Pretty ho-hum finish (though there are reportedly two sellouts that I'm pretty skeptical of. They put Respect/Candyman in the low 2s, Beast/Nope in the mid 3s), and there's a clearly different split between the two comps. This is definitely overindexing here, so it's in the 1.7M range of the lower two? Let's be optimistic and take an educated guess it's a bit higher in the 1.8-2M range
