Do they ever? I know RT has a huge impact, but do social media reviews?

We have seen multiple MCU movies get a boost around social media reactions. From BW till Thor. Levels do vary. Only movie which did not benefit was Eternals but that had early reviews that took away all the hype.

Prey for the Devil, counted today at 11am EST for today:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 45 (3 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 1 (2 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): still Sell Outs reported, I doubt it
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 8 (2 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 10 (4 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 41 (2 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal):
59 (3 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 6 theaters: 164.

Up very modest 17% since yesterday.
Comps (all counted on Thursday of the release week for Thursday): The Invitation (775k) had 218 sold tickets,

Smile (2M) had 467,

Barbarian (850k) had 289,

The Invisible Man (1.65M) had 927

and The Forever Purge (1.3M) had 241 sold tickets.

So ca. 2/3 of the presales of The Invitation but Prey for the Devil had way worse jumps in the last few days. Therefore I go with sub-500k from previews.

Prey for the Devil, counted today at 11am EST for tomorrow:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 85 (9 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 10 (5 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 6 (3 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 4 (4 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 7 (3 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 68 (4 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 82 (4 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 262.

Up acceptable 27% since yesterday.
Comps (all counted on Thursday for Friday): The Invitation had 204 sold tickets,

Smile had 549
Barbarian had 249,

Old had 500,

Malignant had 237,

The Invisible Man had 894

and The Conjuring 3 had 1.435 sold tickets. As I said yesterday, this comp makes PFTD look worse than it is e.g. because The Conjuring had no Thursday shows.

This film does not behave like a normal horror movie. The jumps in my theaters were really poor for that genre but it's also untypical and a good sign that the Friday presales are way better than the Thursday presales. And Halloween is coming.
With a little help of the release date I think it could reach ca. 7M OW.

Hey @datpepper any leads on the mystery movie

Sorry, not yet! 😖

I assure you I'll tag you once I hear anything. My source still hasn't received word on what the movie is, although he seems pretty confident it's not Fabelmans (For those lurking from r/boxoffice where I got "famous" for the last mystery movie after my BOT reply got shared over there, please do not post this as 100% confirmation, as I'm not ruling anything out completely just yet). The DCP file should be sent out for ingestion sometime late next week, so hopefully I'll hear something soon.

Just curious....why do you all think Denver is tracking lower for WF than Sac and Philly?

@Inceptionzq knows their market better than anyone else, naturally, but...

1] Randomness

2] Demographic differences between the areas

3] Underperforming at key local theaters

4] Outliers happen on random samples/Just one of those things

Aside from that, and again not knowing the drilled down data at the theater level (which is where Inceptionzq would know much more about), probably wouldn't want to draw too many more conclusions until all pre-sales are done.  Could just be late arriving ticket purchases for whatever reason. There's a reason why I listed "randomness" above "demographic differences" after all.
