Anyways, I wanted to do something fun and do a non-scientific, very basic look at the Best Picture nominees playing at my local theater (and also Living and The Whale for fun since they also got major nominations). Keep in mind I did this in the span of 20 minutes with one theater, for movies that will all likely have big walk-ups, and all these movies have a wide variety of theater locations this weekend. So do not take this as gospel for what films will definitively make more this weekend. This is just something fun I wanted to do.

 

1. Avatar: The Way of Water: 69 tickets (hahaha) with 17 showtimes

Universal has had good luck recently with their trailers that went viral for movies with wacky concepts (Violent Night, M3GAN) but I'm guessing Cocaine Bear will appeal to the most niche audience out of all of them. Their range sounds about right.

I got the trailers for both of those movies at my Puss in Boots showing and it just amused me because they were shortened alternate trailers with all the "old ladies talk about sex" jokes taken out (ala Fonda trying to feel up the hunky Italian cop and asking to see his "concealed weapon" in the Book Club 2 trailer).
