Weekend Thread (6/3-5) | Top Gun 2 drops 29% for 90M. The smallest second weekend drop ever for a 100M+ opener!

I still think Jurassic World sees Venom level acceleration this week. Haven't we learned with this franchise? It has buzz around me.

Conversely, buzz on Lightyear is rather low around me, I predicted 105m OW to start the summer but dropping that to high 80s. I obviously don't hang around kids much, but just comparing the hype among my adult friends relative to other big Pixar sequels. It'll have to skew younger.

June 19 is also the new federal holiday of… Juneteenth

So Mon Jun 20 will be a federal holiday.

I couldn't think of the best era for movies but my two favorite years were 1999 (The Matrix, Fight Club, Office Space) and 2018 (Infinity War, Mission Impossible Fallout, Into the Spider-verse).

What was the best year for you guys?

2019: Marriage Story, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, 1917, Endgame, Jojo Rabbit, Irishman, Little Women, Knives Out, The Farewell, Ready or Not, Rocketman, Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Fighting with my Family, A Hidden Life, Midsommar, and yes even Joker.

Hard to choose, but two years stand out.

2016 with Misconduct, Ride Along 2, Everybody Wants Some!! and Hidden Figures

or

2018 with The Bad Guys, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and Set It Up.

2022 is trending well with Apollo 10 1/2 and Top Gun: Maverick.

I'd be thinking sat  around 34m, see how it looks later

That’s actually a very good number! Would be about an $86M second weekend (juuuust good enough for #8 all-time) and a 10% Saturday-to-Saturday drop if it holds.

$36M+ was never happening. Absolute best case scenario was $35M IMHO.

Amazing. Indicates High 80s with a chance at 90M if Sat grows a little more.
