But Inarritu was never a studio filmmaker in the first place so these comparisons make no sense.

He s an "artiste".

that's what I'm thinking. If this is some giant turd flop he could probably jump away and make another mexican joint or megan ellison would hook him up for something smaller or i dunno whatever.

Plus let s not forget he has Hollywood actors in the palm of his hands.

Everybody in town wants to be in an Inarritu movie, his actor s resume speaks for himself :

Sean Penn

Benicio Del Toro

Naomi Watts

Charlotte Gainsbourg

Brad Pitt

Cate Blanchett

Javier Bardem

Michael Keaton, Emma Stone, Edward Norton & all the cast of Birdman

Leonardo di Caprio

Tom Hardy

&

WILL FUCKING POULTER

 I feel bad for him

No need... he is one of the most successful actors of his generations... constantly getting new, different and exciting offers with some of the best directors in critically acclaimed and financially successful movies for 20+ years now.

He does not have to point naked to an island for some fankiddies to jump with joy, he actually is an artist.

I'm just glad to see Inarritu is done with that multi-story misery porn shit. Granted, The Revenant and Birdman aren't exactly light-hearted, but they have (or seem to have) so many other things going for them besides the suffering of their characters. Babel and Biutiful did not.

He still gets hard on misery IMO, Birdman had characters that were feeling sorry for themselves the entire movie, " poor me, poor me !,  and The Revenant is about PAIN, physical this time.
