I like to stay conservative so that when the actuals some out I am almost always pleasantly surprised. My weekend was originally $9.54M for PiB but 10M is locked at this point

Aaaaand, you just jinx it.

Puss under 10M this weekend

I mean... you might be kind of right  Showman's Wed gross on Jan 10 was 1.32M, which is 16% ahead of Puss's number today. Over MLK weekend, Showman did 12.5M 3-day and 16.2M 4-day. If Puss can match that, I will be all on board the "Greatest Showman" train. Although I'm thinking it will be closer to 8.5/11 or somewhere around there.

8.5M with a $1M+ Thursday?🤣

Is it just me or are these weekday dailies... incredibly strong? Especially for a kids-oriented film like Puss in Boots.

Yes, because it’s not quite the same audience

Expect it to have a daily pattern more like a Jumanji than a Sing, with higher weekdays but not quite as strong jumps on especially Fri but also Sa

I know its early so not meaningful, but 2023 DOM Market Share (through Tue 1/11)

  • Disney = 57.6% (Avatwo, BPWF, Strange World)
  • Universal = 31.8% (Puss, M3G, Violent Night, Fablemans)
  • Sony = 5.5% (Whitney)
  • Paramount = 2.1% (Babylon)
  • A24 = 1.4% (Whale)
  • Searchlight = 1.0% (Menu)
  • Everything else = 0.5%
  • Warner Bros = 0.04% (Remnants of Black Adam)
  • Lionsgate = 0% (no releases)

House Party and Plane to the rescue?

Isn't Avatar a Fox movie? I think Disney and FOX are still separate entities , like Universal-Focus ?

I like it. Some chance it will scale those heights.

See quoted post below, it's having the patterns more of a four-quadrant film rather than a "kids" film, which is why I feel like weekend increases may be slightly muted. That being said...

EDIT FROM WHAT I SAID EARLIER: I didn't realize Puss's last weekend was 13.5M. Thought it was 12M lol, so my 8.5 prediction is definitely too low. Thinking 9.5 or 10.

That’s a massive increase from Mon for Otto: +$100K/27%, really heading towards a good weekend with expansion. Even Whitney is up 18% from Monday

I wonder … 🤔

Yes, technically, but that’s more of an accounting thing. It’s a Disney release in all but name. Less like a true independent split for Focus, more like how Sony has several sub-distributors all under their umbrella

That's just it - it's not just kid-oriented...at least not anymore.  It has definitely made its way into 18+ consciousness and ticket buying...

M3 too didn't hold on very well, compared to other holdovers. Think weekend can go for:

(Thu - 1.6-1.65M)

Fri - 5.2M (+220%) [Friday the 13th]

Sat - 7.0M (+35%)

Sun - 4.9M (-30%)

Mon - 3.2M (-34%)

17M (3day)/20.3M (4day)

That's not too surprising. It had a good Tuesday increase so...
