Smurfs aren't anywhere near as big. I think we all know why Pokemon didn't do well it was based on a Pokemon spin off.

Plus the fact that from the trailers it didn't looks like a kids/family movie, and it also come out in the same month as Avengers Endgame...

Never saw such crowd in July for a "new" movie (not a saga like HP) with this weather (more than 40°C in 3/4 of the country).
Everyone is at the beach here, even in the evening/night. Summer never existed here for that reason, so it's unbelievable. The only movie I remember performed very very well in the summer was Suicide Squad in 2016.

Yeah and I'm curious to see today's results instead, considering that at least here in Lombardy there was some disastrous wind and rain wich caused some damage (and, among other things, my WiFi is still not working...)

South Korea youth has extremely polarized views regarding feminism and gender relations.  If you look at the exit polls of the last presidential election you will see a ridiculous gender gap between the liberal and conservative candidate among 18-29 years old. That could be poisoning the well.

Yeah I've read the same, and it's kinda absurd since South Korea is already one of the developed countries where women have it worse in comparison to men

So Barbie is on the way to become another $1bn movie with very minimal contribution from China. Five movies passed $1bn post-Covid and only A2 and JWD has some substantial bump from China, at 11% and 15% of total WW gross. Mario was 2% or zero in the case of TGM and NWH.

You're right, 4.8m in US dollars, that 3 million first day that was reported earlier is wrong (maybe the 3 million were just early estimates).

Deadline just confirmed, 4.9m Opening Day in Brazil.

"Brazil dominated Thursday at No.1 with $4.9M and an 84% market share of Top 5 films, and is the biggest opening day ever for a WB title, the biggest opening day post-pandemic ahead of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the biggest opening day of 2023 ahead of both Fast X and The Super Mario Bros Movie, and the 2nd biggest opening day of all time, only behind Avengers: Endgame.".

South Korea

Unlike China there are no legs to be seen here. After opening similar to ATSV which had a 3.8x multiplier, it completely failed to grow on Saturday. Tracking for only a 30% jump from Friday (most movies jump 100% or more). Looks like 150k admissions for the FSS weekend, 250k for the 5-day, around $1.75M.

Final total won't be much higher than $3M.

Insane,Barbie already Top 1 hot trends on Weibo!

It’s gonna be another soul or even Coco if the next week local hit doesn’t hurt much.

What's causing this? Are people connecting to it? Is it because of Robbie and Gosling?

Because the movie is just pretty damn good, that’s why.

And also I said before,Barbie is very famous in China, maybe not so “popular”,but is really famous,it’s the brand that everybody know.
