The number is weird af no matter what way it’s sliced. If it’s just pure Thursday alone then it’s fucking ridiculous.
If it’s split between previews and EA then at least one of those two numbers were incredibly low. I mean for gods sake the movie made 2 million in China over 3 days of early access screenings, so it making less than that over 3 weeks of early access screenings in the US is strange to say the least.

The US isn't China in terms of population or theatrical exhibition size or even the popularity of any particular franchise. The size of their box office, how many showings for previews, in how many locations, pricing, etc does not reflect what goes on here at all.

Though it's fun to track but that's not to see what's going on domestically.

Can u pls explain what this means from deadline?

The industry does need a new theatrical distributor and MUBI is making a splash with its acquisition of Universal/Working Titles’s The Substance which minted $512K in Wednesday previews that began at 7PM in 785 theaters and another $327K in previews from 1,455 theaters.

Basically it means they separated the early access show gross and Thursday preview gross. So in total, it made $839k from all previews, but the breakdown is very helpful for projection purposes.

okay so why does the deadline article say it’s Thursday + Wednesday, but no mention of the early access that happened long before then?

If it’s as bad as it looks why is he saying “don’t be shocked if it hits 40mil”?

The truth is it’s incredibly hard right now to pinpoint the trajectory this thing is going to follow. There are a lot of different paths it could take.

Also, he probably just forgot to mention the Saturday shows. No reason they wouldn’t be included.

Perhaps Deadline is hard balling this time?

I wasn't ready for 100M OW for Venom 3 , i was more 70-80M OW but the second surprised a lot 3 years ago and without COVID impact , i think 100M isn't the biggest surprise of the year. Insane that Venom 3 OW above Joker 2 OW will probably happen.
