Since there is a very real possibility of the margin between Eras and KOTFM being less than the former's Thursday gross, I'd bet on AMC excluding it from their second weekend gross.

 

Unlike rival studios wanting every advantage they can get in a box office headline race, it would behoove any exhibitor to play nice with a major studio and their prestige star-driven movie... especially in 2023.

 

That said, I've reached out to AMC and try and confirm this will be the case sooner rather than later.

Decent enough walkups for today, especially considering last night.

 

Main problem for me is lack of good comps, especially with the best comp having capacity concerns.  Creed III being low is probably much later sample time and demo but if I throw them all into blender, I get 2.86m, so considering it might be doing better in parts of the US where this type of film might not normally and Nope having 2022 ATPs, let's go with 2.9m +/- .2m.

 

Could have been worse, I suppose.

All memes and jokes aside, I'm fairly pleased with this result.  Outside of the ad-hoc range by .1m for a Q&D isn't bad at all.

 

More to the point, I think Sacramento was the first major market to throw up warning signs about KOTFM relative limp to the finish.  All markets were trending down, yes.  But this was the first to suggest that mid-2s was a real possibility.  And, well, here we are

 

My biggest problem, obviously I would think, were lack of recent good comps for it.  A little surprised, actually, that Nope hit it exactly.  

 

So as I said, pleased enough with the result.  Well, not "pleased" as I would have liked KOTFM to have done better, obviously.  But pleased enough on the track itself.

2nd best day so far. Smaller chains did great.

 

Unfortunately I have a big gap in my comps where this will probably land and as illustrated by M37 the Barbie comp I think has ran its course so I have swapped out for TMNT, let's see how that goes. I have kept Oppy for now as it did improve today. I do think the Haunted Mansion comp will become useful (big drop today) hence my persistence but it is taking its time.

One theater is responsible for over half of the new sales (they are legit sales, maybe a large group or maybe that suburb is really into Disney day). As for comps, Haunted Mansion at T-21, TMNT and Paw Patrol 2 at T-18, maybe Ruby Gillman final week. So for the next couple of weeks I'll just post the numbers twice a week without much reference point.

Going to start adding this table, posting this today as sort of a pilot (looks silly for this release specifically because of so few tickets sold). PLF includes anything that is considered PLF for that theater/chain: IMAX, Dolby, Prime, XDX, DLX, EMX, Monster Alamo's "the big show". I wanna keep track of three specific chains: MTC1, because it's always the one with most pre-sales; Alamo, because it has overindexed in some specific releases that usually do not reflect as much walk-up traffic (KOFM is the latest example); Marcus, because I have noticed the opposite happening (when it overindexes, it seems to reflect better walk-up traffic). All of these are anecdotal observations so I want to keep track of that and see if it checks out. More date is usually better anyway!

 

Other chains include: 5 Emagine theaters, a few local/Midwestern chains (2 Mann theaters, 1 B&B, 1 CMX, 1 Showplace Icon, and 1 local theater.

 

Also, I once again apologize for the different colors, makes this look like a rainbow but my brain needs them to keep my spreadsheet organized lol.

Just checked on Freddy - it got expanded further today and now has a Marvels preset at my locals...maybe I am now gonna end up being the one who's too low on the movie (and I started as one of the high ones hyping the movie).  Dang, what a difference 6 months makes:)...

 

But I might as well stick to my gut, even though all 4 of my kids told me today it doesn't matter that it's on Peacock, you have to see it in theater and it doesn't matter if it's good b/c that's not the point of FNAF...yeah, this is playing huge in the 8-25 range...they are all in...(yet, I can't be all in on the $100M hype train - some parent is gonna say no to their kids when they find out it's on tv.  Maybe not me, but someone.  PS - my spouse has preemptively said he's out for this, so if I go, I'm braving the teen hordes solo:)...
