Hype/interest + quality + calendar. Eventually it won't happen. Had TLK 19' or MOM hit $200M, neither would have reached $600M

Regarding MOM and TLK , the counter is also right tho no?

If both movies had even little bit more of good reception , they would have reached 200m OW and would have finsihed 600m+

What's everyone's top 3 most anticipated for next year?

Cap 4
Thunderbolts
Fantastic Four
Superman
Avatar 3
Minecraft
Naked Gun
Snow White
Mission Impossible 8
Karate Kid
Jurassic Park 4
Tron Ares
Mortal Kombat 2
Wicked 2
Zootopia 2

Fantastic 4

Minecraft (mostly interested in how this translate to the big screen)

MEGAN 2.0

Kind of a weak year for me, not super excited about any of the 2025 slate tbh

What's the three weakest months for movies?

1) January

2) ???

3) ???

Not January due to the 1st week of January being holiday.

I would say Summer box office (June 7th until 14th August specifically school summer breaks) and December plus Early Jaunary is the two best periods for box office. (Weekdays on steroids)

Febuary, March, April, May, September, October and November are equally average or bad ( Basic average poor weekdays and boosted weekends hence you won´t see these weekdays on steroids)

Shrek 5

Moana Live Action

Paw Patrol 3

I feel like the reason we have this “200M openers always crossing 600M” in part comes down to the fact that, in order to open above 200M, the movie has to be more than just “hyped” and actually enter some kind of cultural zeitgeist, which propels it for at least a couple weeks, giving it the momentum it needs to reach 600. MOM and TLK just didn’t have that momentum. Deadpool certainly does (Dancepool was a stroke of genius).

There was a time when 2025 looked like the real epic "cinema is back" year and right now it does look about as blah as the beginning of 2024 did imo, if maybe a little more balanced in Q1 at least. I'm not really looking too far ahead because I know a lot of that 2026 slate is mostly to hype investors and fanboys up and there are inevitably gonna be a lot of changes. So I prefer to focus on the short term which does look pretty promising as it is

Get Dancepool to all the Deadpool sequels.

Nice slate of auteur projects with big budgets - PTA, Coogler, Aster, David Robert Mitchell, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Parker/Stone, Boyle, Kosinski, Cameron obviously, and Bong, plus projects from Spike Lee, Sadfies (if it doesn't happening this year), Celine Song, Yorgos again, Berger again, Afronsky, probably Zhao and Fennell, possibly Chazelle, maybe Innaritu/Cruise though looking less likely. Also GDT, Bauchbaum, and Bigelow but they are on Netflix so fuck em. Traditional blockbuster slate totally bores me though outside the auteur original ones and Mission Impossible.
