DANIEL CRAIG became embroiled in a number of bust-ups with director SAM MENDES while filming new James Bond movie SPECTRE.

The actor has reprised his role as the superspy for a fourth time, marking his second 007 collaboration with Mendes after 2012's Skyfall, and he admits the pair clashed numerous times on-set over the course of the shoot.

He tells Empire magazine, "I felt the need to push Sam probably harder than I should (when working on Skyfall), and he kicked back and pushed me and we've done the same on this (Spectre). We just push each other. We blew up at each other a couple of times."

Mendes also concedes he argued with Craig on Spectre, but blamed the bust-ups on the difficult nature of the shoot.

He adds, "It always felt like it (the arguments) led to something better, and that we needed to let off steam. You get cranky. God knows, there's been difficult s**t on this movie. Every single person has either been injured or ill. People have been off who've never been off in their lives before."

Craig suffered a knee injury while shooting the movie earlier this year (15) and had to take time off to undergo surgery.

Ever since Christoph Waltz was announced as Spectre villain Franz Oberhauser, fan speculation has run wild about his true identity: 007's arch-nemesis Ernst Stavro Blofeld.

Now director Sam Mendes has addressed the question head-on (sort-of), telling the latest issue of Empire (which Mendes coincidentally guest-edited himself) that the character has been discussed at length by the Bond team.

"The B-word! We talk about it all the time. It's the great figure from the Bond vault, as it were," Mendes said.

"There was this big spectre hanging over the movie and the franchise, which is Blofeld, and what happened to the supervillain. That's all I'm going to say."

He added: "There's some big stuff the movie is moving towards. There are depth charges you hopefully don't see coming."

The filmmaker also took issue with fans demanding to know if Waltz is Blofeld before seeing the film.

Responding to the criticism over Star Trek Into Darkness's John Harrison/Khan reveal, Mendes said: "Why was there a backlash? There's a narrative as well. The naming of a character is part of a story.

"The audience cannot and should not be given - and I'm not confirming or denying anything - information that the characters do not have. And preserving tension in the narrative of a story that is a riff or an acknowledgement of the iconography of Bond over the years has been crucial.

"Otherwise you have taken an audience out of the narrative before it's even begun."

All will be revealed when Spectre, starring Daniel Craig and Léa Seydoux, debuts in cinemas on October 26.

not sure Mendes is right about Into Darkness as that was cheap, but the way SPECTRE is doing it is much better imo

Over a billion would be a drop of less than 10% of its predecessor's gross. Given Skyfall's reception, that's clearly a win. 

 

I'm in wait and see mode. Mendes tends to have good quality control, but the marketing has been moribund. I feel like they're overestimating how much everyone cares about SPECTRE itself. People don't go to Bond movies for the conspiracies or even, arguably, the plot.

Really, I'm not gonna lie but of all the fall movies this is the one I've seen the most hype for at school. ( I have not heard one breath about Star Wars and very little about Mockingjay) *

* No I'm not saying it will out gross those films, at this point the hype is just more apparent.

There's plenty of buzz in the school I work at, but that's a cop out as it's an English private school, literally Bond territory.

A new videoblog on the stunts/action filming was meant to drop today, they even announced it in a press release and everything, but they now seem to have realised "oh shit we're meant to release the final trailer like soon"

We still have no idea who's running quantum many members including Mr white are still at large and were jumping into spectre? When a lot of people see quantum as spectre wannabes anyway? The only reason we know there's no sour grapes over the (IMO unwarranted but that has nothing to do with this theory) hate of quantum of solace is the fact that Mr white is returning in this film in the first place!

 

We know he's at least high ranking anyway as he's the only member bond has encountered in multiple films he killed Hannibal and probably what's-his-face from solace too he was the only one who didn't fall for bonds trap and the biggest giveaway that he's important? Why would a mole that has a position RIGHT BY M 'S (RIP) SIDE BLOW HIS COVER FOR HIM?? Because the organization needs him....because he's the head of the snake!!

The teaser of the song sounds like they're going for the same Shirley Bassey retro throwback vibe as with Skyfall. Meh. What happened to when a Bond song could be diverse in genre and reflective of an artist's sound? Why do they want the same boring retro orchestral pop song now?
