Almost all films rate between A and C, anything less is a failure. F is even rarer than A+. So you'll find a lot of films do get an A. Do not mistake C as the average, its probably below average

The difference is that a C might mean some loved it and some hated it. Whereas an A+ CinemaScore is very hard to achieve, requires almost unanimous praise as just a few lower grades will bump it down

Alright, I'm just trying to make everyone keep calm here.I mean, the Hunger Games, that mess of a thread of locks and whatnot and it's being played out again here.Is there really much difference between an A+ and an A? Deathly Hallows scored an A, it didn't even make 2.3x.Then where is the amazing run of How to Train Your Dragon? Or you had the Lincoln Lawyer/Limitless duo sprouting some fantastic legs last year. It's a great sign yes, but it means diddlysquat.

52 movies since the 80s means it's less special? lol

Look stop being a fanboy for a second. CS hardly means anything. As a poster said above, the average I'm sure is something like a B+.Is it a good sign? YES. Does it mean anything? No.

Seems I'm arguing a point with everyone.I used Potter because someone said it got an A.If someone can compile a list of CinemaScores of all the films of 2011 and their multipliers you'd already know that it doesn't mean anything. Yeah, of course an A is better than a C which is better than an F, but an A to an A+? Maybe even an A-.

Did I say it meant anything? No. But it is a good sign for very strong WOM.

You may have, you may not. I group all the posts together because they all seem to be making the same point.OMG A+ must guarantee great legs better than every other film, tied with only 52 others.

Oh, lol, okay so there's actually 52 of them, makes it even less special.

GRADE A+: Only 52 films have received the top mark from audiences, on average two a year since 1982

[*]Akeelah and the Bee (2006, Lionsgate)

    [*]Aladdin (1992, Disney Animation)

[*]Beauty and the Beast (1991, Disney Animation)

[*]The Blind Side (2009, Warner Bros.)

[*]The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005, Disney)

    [*]Cinderella Man (2005, Universal)

    [*]Dances With Wolves (1990, Orion)

    [*]Dead Poets Society (1989, Disney)

[*]Diary of a Mad Black Woman (2005, Lionsgate)

    [*]Die Hard (1988, Fox)

    [*]Dreamer (2005, Dreamworks)

[*]Driving Miss Daisy (1989, Warner Bros.)

    [*]Drumline (2002, Fox)

[*]A Dry White Season (1989, MGM)

    [*]E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial (1982, Universal)

[*]A Few Good Men (1992, Sony)

    [*]Finding Forrester (2000, Sony)

    [*]Forrest Gump (1994, Paramount)

    [*]The Fugitive (1993, Warner Bros.)

    [*]Gandhi (1982, Columbia)

[*]Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002, Warner Bros.)

    [*]The Help (2011, Disney)

[*]Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993, Disney)

    [*]The Incredibles (2004, Disney /Pixar)

    [*]Iron Will (1994, Disney)

[*]The Joy Luck Club (1993, Disney)

    [*]The King's Speech (2010, Weinstein)

[*]Lean on Me (1989, Warner Bros.)

[*]Lethal Weapon 2 (1989, Warner Bros.)

[*]The Lion King (1994, Disney Animation)

    [*]Monsters, Inc. (2001, Disney/Pixar)

    [*]Mr. Holland's Opus (1995, Disney)

    [*]Mulan (1998, Disney Animation)

[*]Music of the Heart (1999, Miramax)

[*]The Passion of the Christ (2004, Newmarket)

[*]The Polar Express (2004, Warner Bros.)

    [*]The Princess Bride (1987, Fox)

    [*]Ray (2004, Universal)

    [*]Remember the Titans (2000, Disney)

    [*]Rocky 3 (1982, United Artists)

    [*]Schindler's List (1993, Universal)

    [*]Soul Food (1997, Fox)

    [*]Soul Surfer (2011, Sony)

[*]Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986, Paramount)

    [*]Star Wars (1999 rerelease, Fox)

    [*]Tangled (2010, Disney Animation)

[*]Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991, TriStar)

    [*]Titanic (1997, Paramount)

    [*]Toy Story 2 (1999, Disney /Pixar)

    [*]Up (2009, Disney/pixar)

[*]When Harry Met Sally (1989, Columbia)

[*]Why Did I Get Married? (2007, Lionsgate)

GRADE F: George Clooney's Solaris is one of only 5 to fail

    [*]The Box (2009, Warner Bros.)

    [*]Bug (2006, Lionsgate)

    [*]Darkness (2002, Dimension)

    [*]Solaris (2002, Fox)

    [*]Wolf Creek (2005, Weinstein)

I prefer some F movies to many of the A+ movie. Not kidding. Why is Wolf Creek hated so much? It is far from the worst Horror/serial killer movie I have seen. Solaris shouldn't be there either. I'd probably hate Bug too if I had to see it in theater but Michael Shannon and Ashley Judd are great in it.

No one's saying it guarantees anything. Can you find someone saying that? Please do before you start up with the heavy-handed posturingBut the fact that it's receiving such unanimous praise coupled with the A+ cinemascore, which you don't see every day, is a good sign of things to come

That's not what people were saying and it honestly seems like you are trying to talk it down. Edited by Magic

Whatever the CS all movies have a limit to their gross. Even if it was 100% on RT 10 on IMDB and A++++++ on CS there are enough people who wont go to see it 'because its a stupid campy comic book film' (fair comment or not) to prevent it challenging something like Titanic or Avatar. I doubt it would ever have a chance at passing TDK either, however good it is because of this natural limitation.

Yeah, you have to wonder what the people who rated Wolf Creek were expecting? Maybe day trippers from a retirement home went into the wrong screening.

I am trying to talk it down. Cinema Score has been lambasted before when certain movies get high grades and when certain movies get low grades and then predictions of multipliers and legs come about and then...it doesn't pan out. Even the article mentions Rango scored a C+ and it didn't die. Look at Lorax that scored an A I think. To Chewy, someone said it would gross $500m. And yeah guarantee's too strong a word, but look at that, A+ and suddenly $180m + is in store? I don't understand why people put much stock into it. If it only got an A, it would have virtually the same chance of getting a 3x as it is now. After all, CS is based on select showings in select places is it not?

Disney had 4 A+ handdrawing animation films in the 90's. Must be hard to believe now the handdrawing animation is basically dead. Edited by vc2002

Wait a minute, who here said it would challenge Avatar or Titanic or TDK?I never knew movie grosses had a limit. I thought if they got an A+ cinemascore then they would make 500M+ guaranteed.I think people get this and this seems like an overreaction. I would be happy with 400M-odd. I'm not even thinking about anything beyond that right now regardless of the cinemascore.
