Guernica Studios yearly report:

The studio had its best year at the box office and it's proven to be a company that is aiming for the top spot in years to come. This is the first year since we came to the market that all of our films made net profit. We expected better critical receptions for certain films, but none of our project got rotten rating, they just fell short in certain areas, which is a great learning curve for this young studio to improve its quality projects the upcoming years. Now let the numbers do the talk:

Year One

Films: 3

WW Revenue: 734m

Net profit: 203m

Oscar: 3 wins

Year Two

Films: 6

WW Revenue: 1.002m

Net profit: 201m

Oscar: 1 wins, BP nomination

Year Three

Films: 4

WW Revenue: 1.588m

Net profit: 345m

Oscar: TBA

The following is set before the previous post.

Blankments Productions at WonderCon Live-Blog by Karlos Winfeld

The only film company who bothered to get a WonderCon panel this year was Blankments Productions, but their slate is so intriguing our site sent me out to liveblog it. We’ve seen a lot of The Flash already, but I’m sure we’ll get some information. Besides their teasers, we haven’t seen anything from Booster Gold and Martian Manhunter so news there is pretty much guaranteed. The story’s the same with The Last Six, which has only the intriguing Super Bowl spot shown, but that’s an original Brad Bird film, making it worthy of hype already. Nothing from Bone at all either. Plus, there’s sure to be some surprises!

4:01: Only a minute late, they must have a lot to show. The lights are dimming, and President Edward Nadny of Blankments Productions is walking out. Getting right into it with him talking about how the first year of Blankments Productions went well, but they’ve been working hard on new stuff for their second year.

4:02: Ed just brought up there’ll be no sizzle reels, just raw scenes and trailers, for the films. Interesting choice.

4:03: Ed’s been talking a lot about how he’s proud to partner with Perseus Studios and DC Entertainment to bring DC superheroes to the big screen. He’s introducing Shawn Levy right now, who’s going to be showing stuff from The Flash.

4:03: Oh, and Bradley Cooper’s here too. They’re going right into showing footage. They’re going to show a romance scene, a fight scene, and a scene with the villain played by Ralph Fiennes.

4:06: First scene just finished. A date and Barry proposing to Iris. he audience laughed at the cut-off and Shawn Levy is saying they’re going to have to wait to see if Iris will be Barry’s fiancée. McAdams and Cooper have great chemistry. Moving right onto the next scene. UPDATE: Barry and Iris (Rachel McAdams) are leaving an amusement park, talking about how great their time was. Iris jokes how she wishes Barry was fast like a rollercoaster since he’s always late. They both laugh, but then when they reach the car, Barry tells her to wait with her eyes closed for a surprise. Barry goes into the car and pulls a ring out of the glove department. He then asks Iris to marry him. End of scene.

4:11: Awesome action scene. Cool fight and clearly an introduction to the Flash in the movie, but I have to wonder how they’re going to keep the fights interesting during the movie. Bradley Cooper is talking about how much he loved that scene and begins talking about working with Ralph Fiennes. UPDATE: Started with six thugs robbing a bank. They load the money in the getaway car and the driver gets in and locks the door. The Flash shows up, and the car speeds away. The other five thugs look at Flash and start shooting at him. Flash dodges them, and then starts punching them all up. He gave some witty oneliner after beating up the five but then looks at the direction of the car, which has sped away a minute ago. Flash smirks and starts running after it. Really good effects there. It cut to the driver then who looks back at the money smiling, when suddenly, the driver is punched through the windshield by Flash. Flash then jumps and runs against the car, stopping it.

4:13: Ralph Fiennes is looking good as the villain, playing him with a little cheese, but still frightening. The scene they showed seems very superfluous though. I’d wager a guess it won’t be in the final film. UPDATE: Two thugs from the previous scene are all in a cell when the prison door opens. It’s Captain Cold. Aiming his gun at them, he tells them he’ll let them live if they tell him all they know about Flash. They tell him they don’t know anything, they just beat them up. Captain Cold grimaces but then freezes them all in place, telling them to enjoy their time in prison.

4:14: Levy and Cooper went over to sit at a roundtable, and Ed comes out again to say there’ll be a Q&A session after Booster Gold and Martian Manhunter. He starts introducing Duncan Jones, who they’re proud to be working with again after last year’s Consciousness Slip, and Zachary Levi.

4:16: Duncan Jones is talking about how Booster Gold isn’t a well-known hero but can still be a fantastic movie. Levi is joking about how Booster isn’t well-known, Duncan Jones isn’t well-known, and himself isn’t well-known, so hopefully they’ll be known after the movie releases.

4:17: Jones is still talking about how the approach he’s taking is very different from his past films. He says all of his previous films have been dark and gritty, but Booster Gold is fun sci-fi. Levi is talking about how this is his first action movie, and the first time his main co-star has been a puppet during filming.

4:18: Jones is explaining the footage they’re going to show is incomplete and as such don’t expect there to be a fully-animated Skeets in the footage. Levi announces that Skeets will be voiced by Brian Posehn which gets cheers from the crowd. A picture of a fully-rendered Skeets appears on screen causing more cheers from the crowd. The design seems based off of the Brave and the Bold cartoon’s Skeets.

4:20: Levi is talking about how he read a lot of Booster Gold comics and watched the cartoons where Booster appeared in a starring role. Jones then says it’s time for them to stop dilly-dallying and show a scene.

4:24: Pretty extended-scene. It was the museum of superheroes and Michael finding the costume. The Skeets and Michael banter is great, and might end up being the highlight of the movie. UPDATE: Michael is walking towards something with a partially animated Skeets behind him. It cuts to reveal it is the well-known Booster Gold costume. Skeets says they should go, but Michael begins reading the description of the costume out loud. Pretty much basic Booster Gold stuff. He asks Skeets if he recognizes it, and Skeets says no.

4:26: Jones is talking about how they won’t being showing any of Peter Weller’s Chiller but he and Levi reassure us he’s a badass. Levi does say there’s something most people here would prefer seeing to Chiller anyway in the next clip. I wonder what that means... The clip is starting.

4:29: I still don’t know what he meant. The clip was just Michael and Skeets going back in time and landing in by Armie Hammer’s bedroom. Well, Armie Hammer wasn’t announced for this movie before, but I can’t imagine who he’s playing. UPDATE: Michael full-in-costume with Skeets gets in the time machine. Skeets marks in the date as two days before the assassination attempt on President Downing. Michael presses the button sending them back. There was an awkward cut, with Jones explaining in the video that the time travel sequence is in post-production right now and they don’t want to show it yet. Cut back to the footage, with Michael and Skeets opening up the time machine, finding themselves in the bedroom. The time machine disappears and it cuts to Armie Hammer with his jaw dropped.

4:30: ARMIE HAMMER IS JAIME REYES. HOLY CRAP. The crowd is freaking out right now.

4:30: Duncan Jones just said that Jaime is there to build the future friendship between Booster Gold and Blue Beetle. Zachary Levi is saying he’s looking forward to working with Armie more extensively in the future, and that they are staying in the same hotel room for ComicCon. Everybody laughs.

4:31: Duncan and Zachary are yelling off-stage for Armie to come on stage.

4:32: Armie comes out on stage and hugs Zachary and Duncan. This is insane. Bradley and Shawn are just laughing in their chairs, ha!

4:33: Armie is talking about how great it is to be cast in the DCU, and how awesome Zach and Duncan are.

4:34: Armie is still talking, making jokes about how great Duncan is, but the director for Blue Beetle is so much cooler. His lips are sealed though. Armie says he’s gotta run, and he’ll be back on stage in thirty minutes for The Last Six. Everyone cheers.

4:35: Zachary and Duncan are going over to sit next to Shawn Levy and Bradley Cooper at the table. Q&A time?

4:36: False alarm. Ed is talking about how Perseus couldn’t make the con, but that doesn’t mean they don’t care about the fans. They’ve entrusted Ed to sell Martian Manhunter to the audience at WonderCon, and Ed jokes that he’s going to show his cat dance for ten minutes to sabotage the competition. Everyone laughs.

4:37: Ed is talking about how it’s important for both Perseus and Blankments to get along, or else the DCU will fail. Before he goes onto to show the first full trailer for Martian Manhunter, he wants to announce the Year 5 slate of DC films.

4:38: He’s starting with Blue Beetle since it was just unofficially announced. He’s saying it’ll be done at Perseus, and yes, Armie Hammer is playing Jaime Reyes who will be the Blue Beetle.

4:39: He’s joking that he doesn’t know much about it, since it’s not his studio. He’s moving onto the starter of next summer, which is one of the biggest heroes ever apparently...

4:40: WONDER WOMAN FOR MAY YEAR 5!

4:40: They aren’t ready to announce anyone attached to it, actors or crew. It’s been done at Perseus. No story details yet. Finally, a Wonder Woman movie.

4:41: Ed has to be the only president convinced his job doubles a stand-up comic. The crowd is loving it though.

4:43: Yeah, he’s been stalling for two minutes... Does Blankments Productions have any DC movies for Year 5?

4:43: Spoke too soon, he’s moving on to announce... Plastic-Man?

4:45: Yep, Plastic-Man for Year 5. No release month yet or lead actor announced. Only plot details are Silver Age inspired and it’s being done at Blankments. Director is Ruben Fleischer. Chose him because of Zombieland. He’s here, running on stage. He’ll be in the Q&A.

4:45: Trailer for Martian Manhunter about to start. I’ll comment after it.

4:48: Besides the CGI being obviously still at work, this looks great. UPDATE: A letter flashed on screen with a one second scene. It went: M - Mars burning; A - Lightning striking a house; R - A huge cylindrical machine exploding; T - Martian Manhunter shown as dust clears; I - Horrified face of Dr. Erdel; A - Martian Manhunter shown flying; and N - Martian Manhunter shown removing a lamppost from the ground with ease. The word MARTIAN appeared. Then, M - Back of Detective Jones shown; A - Detective Jones & Officer Faye shown with their faces close; N - Building shown on fire; H - People shown running in a city; U - Martian Manhunter seen falling to the ground in pain; N – Dr. Erdel shown crying; T - Officer Faye shown looking scared; E - A hand with a flamethrower shown; R - Fire covering the screen. MANHUNTER flashed and then MARTIAN returned, revealing the title as MARTIAN MANHUNTER.

4:49: Ed is coming on stage saying it’ll be a really short Q&A since they have a surprise at 4:55. Wonder what that is.

4:49: Ha, he’s also apologizing he couldn’t get any of the Perseus film guys on stage. Ruben is saying that he’ll pretend to be Matthew Vaughn.

4:50: First question directed at the three directors: What made them want to do a superhero movie?

4:51: Shawn wanted to be up with Jon Faverau, Duncan made a joke that none of his movies make a profit, so he wanted to have one outlier. Ruben insisted he directed X-Men: First Class.

4:51: Next one’s directed at Bradley Cooper: Does Barry get a hangover in the movie? Cooper says that’s strictly confidential.

4:52: Zachary’s being asked about McG coming on board with the DCU. He says anything’s possible, but as far as Zach knows, he’s not attached to any movie.

4:53: Ruben is being asked about for more details about his movie. Ruben responds that he’s not allowed to say much, but Channing Tatum is Martian Manhunter and Elijah Wood is in it... This act is getting old.

4:54: The actors are being asked how they relate to their characters. Cooper says he’s always late to meetings like Barry and Zachary says he hangs out with robots every day.

4:55: Last question at Shawn Levy: Will he bring Ben Stiller over to DC? He says he doesn’t know if Stiller will be in a DC movie, but he did say you can safely assume he won’t be in a Flash movie.

4:55: The guys are leaving and Ed is coming out to announce something. Ed is saying we aren’t allowed to have any electronics on at all for the next five minutes, so I’ll see you then.

5:00: Stuff about Chuck Norris and Liam Neeson sequels. He’s moving right on, so I’ll give more details later. UPDATE: Not really a megaton but this is what happened: A video started with Clark Gregg, Chuck Norris, Liam Neeson, Samuel L. Jackson, and Salma Hayek all sitting in folding chairs, saying hi to WonderCon and apologizing for not being able to be there in person, as they are in the middle of filming the sequel to Chuck Norris and Liam Neeson vs. the Loch Ness Monster. Or rather sequels, as they follow it up by saying they’re making it a trilogy of badassness by filming them back-to-back. It then cut to title treatments for Chuck Norris and Liam Neeson vs. the Abominable Snowman and Chuck Norris and Liam Neeson vs. Bigfoot. Clark Gregg then began talking about how now Samuel L. Jackson is one of the good guys, so who will be the main combat bad guy? Suddenly, Jackie Chan walked in and asked where was his chair. Salma Hayek got up and gave his chair to him. Jackie Chan sat down and said he’s proud to be in the films. Clark Gregg then continued that Jackie Chan isn’t the only star joining, and then he left the screen and Bruce Willis came in and took his seat. Bruce Willis then lead the other four action stars saying see you in November.

5:01: Genndy Tartakovsky is walking out now, going to talk about Bone.

5:02: Some character designs are showing up on the screen; pretty neat.

5:03: The film will follow the first three books and will hopefully become a trilogy.

5:04: Genndy has no footage for us, since it’s all uncompleted.

5:05: He’s leaving the stage and Ed is walking back on stage. Weird that there was so little about Bone.

5:10: Ed’s been talking fiscal for the last five minutes, even though Blankments had a relatively terrible first year. I will admit their slate looks great for Year 4 though. Moving onto talking about Brad Bird and his genius.

5:10: They’re starting a montage about him, which is sure to be boring.

5:13: Iron Giant, Incredibles, Ratatouille, M:I-GP, Ant-Man, Vault Break, and The Last Six. Nothing new shown of The Last Six, just the title treatment.

5:13: Brad Bird is walking out right now to a standing ovation. Ed hands him the mic.

5:13: Bird is talking about the first thing he wants to say with breaking the secretiveness of The Last Six. He says The Last Six was filmed completely with IMAX cameras and will NOT be converted into 3D like Ant-Man was. The audience cheers. Ed looks nervous, probably thinking about Chuck Norris being filmed in 3D.

5:14: He’s beginning to introduce his cast for his Q&A coming up. This’ll be the first time we’ll hear who they’re playing.

5:15: Jeremy Renner is some character named the Boss. James McAvoy is the bad guy, Afterlife. Andrew Garfield is Loki, Olivia Wilde is Isis, and Armie Hammer is Blue Bee- Bird corrects himself and says he’s Ares.

5:16: Bird is about to explain how The Last Six came to be.

5:17: Ever since Bird was a kid, he’s loved mythology. He’s always wanted to do a movie about it, but he’s never had a good idea to put all of his favorite mythology in one movie. The Last Six is that movie.

5:18: He describes the movie as mythology’s Avengers. He then corrects himself with Justice League to the joy of the crowd.

5:18: Bird says he’s not going to show any new footage to the audience because he doesn’t want it showing up on YouTube. A full trailer will premiere online afterwards in high quality for everyone in the world to see. The audience boos, but he says that he’ll have concept art and costumes showing on the screen above him as he talks. Moving onto the plot of the film.

5:20: Finally a synopsis for the movie! The Boss and Afterlife, two beings higher than any of the other gods, are fighting when Afterlife escapes to enact a master plan. Afterlife is attempting to destroy Olympus, Asgard, and Maat, home of Greek, Norse, and Egyptian gods, and also destroy Earth. The Boss encounters several gods in his journey to stop Afterlife and recruits them to join them in his quest to save the four worlds.

5:21: Gods included are Nemesis, Bia, Dionysus, Ares, Loki, Freyja, Odin, Isis, Osiris, and Ra.

5:21: The full cast includes Jeremy Renner, James McAvoy, Olivia Wilde, Armie Hammer, Andrew Garfield, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, AnnaSophia Robb, Chris Pine, Krysta Rodriguez, Mark Ruffalo, and Jeff Bridges.

5:22: Bird believes his better films have been ensemble cast focused, and that’s what this one is too.

5:23: He’s talking about how this is a lot darker than you’d expect from him, but still has his same style of humor.

5:24: Seems to just be filling time now; saying that this is closest to Incredibles of his previous films, but it really is completely different from anything else in his filmography. Might even be his best film yet.

5:25: They’re reshowing the Super Bowl spot with updated effects. That money shot of Afterlife picking up the Washington Monument looks so great.

5:28: Q&A Time! First, they’re passing the mic around to introduce themselves and talk about how much they love working with Bird. Jeremy Renner gives him credit for launching his career as an action star, and everyone lists him as one of their favorite directors.

5:29: First question is for Armie Hammer and is about the Blue Beetle director: Armie politely declines to answer, saying that The Last Six has all of his attention right now.

5:30: Brad Bird is being asked the composer. He answers Michael Giacchino of course.

5:32: Another question for Brad Bird: Why did he choose mostly young actors? He says that since gods are immortal, he figured they’d choose to be younger rather than older. He then pointed out that Mark Ruffalo and Jeff Bridges aren’t that young.

5:35: Was there any fun moments off set for the cast? Olivia Wilde mentions something in a bar with Armie Hammer, Andrew Garfield, and Chris Pine trying out for Magic Mike 2. Andrew Garfield cuts her off, saying she forgot Joseph Gordon Levitt as well. The crowd cheers. Jeremy Renner then says that they were kicked out of the bar before he could try, and if the WonderCon audience would like to see his audition. Everyone cheers, Jeremy Renner takes off his belt, and Armie Hammer leans into his mic, asking for another question.

5:38: Whose costume was the hardest to put on? Armie Hammer says the amount of muscle he put on for the movie should count as a costume. They continue saying the Norse god costumes are the most complex and that Andrew Garfield easily had the hardest time of the cast there. James McAvoy says his makeup took five hours to apply each morning.

5:39: Any conflict mirroring the film? James McAvoy says that at the bar, he was stuck paying the fine. Everyone laughs.

5:41: Last question for Brad Bird: Would he consider doing another superhero movie? He says that if he was given complete control over the script and if it was ensemble-based, he might do it. Otherwise, he rather just go do original concepts on his own.

5:42: Ed is giving a quick recap of everything, with title treatments for The Flash, Booster Gold, Martian Manhunter, Wonder Woman, Blue Beetle, and Plastic-Man appearing on one slide and treatments for Chuck Norris and Liam Neeson vs. the Abominable Snowman, Chuck Norris and Liam Neeson vs. Bigfoot, Bone, and The Last Six on another. He’s thanking us all for coming out.

5:43: That’s a wrap, good night WonderCon!

Number 2 Productions Shutting Down

It was announced today that Year 4 will be the final year for Number 2 Productions (includes Barbarian Animation Studio and Number 2 Nature Productions). The reasons why the studio is shutting down are still unknown. This comes as a shock to many movie goers as they will not see the epic two part conclusion to The Bartimaeus Trilogy. Also fans of Fifty Shades of Grey will not see any of the sequels to that series either. The studio had announced that they originally wanted to start sequels to The Chronicle of Novara: The Stone of Armagon, Barbarians, Illusiono, Halloweentown, Sitting Ducks, and Ag3nts however they canceled all production for these sequels as of today. They have offered up rights to The Bartimaeus Trilogy and The Fifty Shades of Grey series. The president of Number 2 Productions said that the offering up rights was a declaration that the studio will not come back in the future. However he did hint that some people in the studio might branch off just to finish The Chronicles of Novara. This wasn't confirmed by anybody as of yet. Fans are hoping that this will happen. Animated Christmas themed film, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King will be the final film released by Number 2 Productions (November 7th, 4).

Edward Nadny on the end of Number 2 Productions By Appa Zariz

Okay, so today, we were eating at In-N-Out on Sunset Boulevard, and imagine our surprise when we saw Edward Nadny eating a Flying Dutchman Animal Style! OMG, so unhealthy! Anyway, we ran up to him in disguise and asked him about the recent news involving Number 2 Productions!

He replied, "It is always tragic when a studio goes under, especially one as consistent and huge as Number 2 Productions and I wish them luck in their final year of operation."

He then noticed our cameras and then yelled at us to leave the place. We didn't and he got the manager, and now I'm banned from In-N-Out for life! You suck, Nadny! At least I'm not going to be fat, like you!
