I get the feeling that we have to be cautious with early Japanese numbers. Not the first time there was an error with the seating numbers i believe.

The last set of weekdays (10/26-30) were down around 21/22% in admissions versus last week.

This is incredible, because it "only" needs to stay around 25% on a weekly basis (Sat.-Fri.) to beat Spirited Away, and the last week ended up down just 15/16% so! That's a big, big number with numbers this high. It allows a lot more leeway later in its run, that's for sure.

If it has another week, maybe two, of only dropping 15% or so weekly, I don't think it's possible for it to miss Spirited Away at that point, since even 30/40% drops would likely get it there.

Its third weekend is on pace to beating the pre-DS OW record :hahaha:

I don't think something of that sorts has happened in any market across world in modern times. Baahubali 2 did beat the previous record in 2nd weekend in India, but not 3rd.

Similarly Return of the Jedi in USA/Canada had 2 weekend above weekend record, 3rd was 82% of record.

Avengers: Endgame in Netherlands had 2 weekend above previous record of Infinity War but the 3rd was just 43% of record. If there was no Endgame, The Lion King would have achieved in Netherlands. It had 4 weekends above the previous record of Infinity War but only opening weekend over Endgame.

Big asterisk on this one, but Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis (2008) did technically beat Les Bronzés 3's previous record (3.906 million admissions) in week 2 (4,4 million) (27/02-04/03) and 3 (3,94 million) although week 1 (20/02-27/02) was a pre-release in parts of the country (550k admissions). Week 4 wasn't that far off with 3.7 million admissions.

So another film to do for two weeks. Though discussion was for Weekend record but don't think Week will change things much, though there are weeks with all days holiday in Japan, if that change anything for Demon Slayer there.

Found another Indian film, which actually might be close for 3rd weekend too but reporting at that time is very vague.

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham in 2001 had first weekend of ₹120mn Approx, previous record was ₹87mn Approx. The 2nd weekend would be around ₹100mn while 3rd around ₹75mn Approx.

It'll probably finish at 666,000 admissions today, quite fitting since it's Halloween! That's good for over 850,000 overall today, and likely closer to 875,000.

That's only a 21/22% drop versus last Saturday, too, and means today became the sixth biggest single day ever, with the film already claiming the top 5 biggest single days.

I'll have an estimate posted when the day officially ends, but it should be enough to allow Sunday to get the weekend above 2 million admissions again for a THIRD weekend over the mark. Remember, before Demon Slayer, no film had even achieved 1.5 million admissions over the weekend.
