JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

Yesterday the news report has explained why Disney decided to release Frozen BD/DVD so early, which came as a surprise

to many people.

Disney is aiming at breaking the BD/DVD selling record in Japan; the NO.1 is Spirited Away (4m pieces ), no2 is princess monokoko

(1.32 m). Disney hopes the sales can reach 5m pieces ! (each movienex is around 4000 Yen.)

As long as the BD is released in mid July, the two famous Japanese singers will begin to perform on TV, singing songs like

for the first time in forever and Let it GO, which is very likely to boost the movienex sales.

The insiders say if the sale Frozen breaks 500 pieces, these two female singers will get 100m Yen as their bonus

(the total sale gross will be over 20b Yen...)

This is where Walt Disney ambition begins....

I hope they fail. Serve them right for being over-greedy.

That's ambitious. It would pretty much mean that the loss of box office revenue could be ignored if they can pull it off. It's a bit unfortunate they can't also get the biggest movie of all time as well, but they may feel that the timing is critical to get the most out of the video sales.

If only Disney put that much effort into breaking the boxoffice record. Even 1 more month would probably have been enough for Frozen to limp its way to the record after the BlueRay/DVD release, assuming it isn't pulled from theaters completely and allowed to wind its way down on its own.

However, this report does not say Frozen will stop screening in July. I guess this will be decided by the market. If people still want to

watch Frozen in the theaters, then the managers will still give Frozen some small screens...If this happens, the two singers'

performance on TV will also give the last driving force to Frozen's run in the theaters.

So, because disney is greedy and stupid, they wont let frozen runs like any other movie because they want to beat spirit away in dvds sales, but they dont want to beat spirit away in theaters. Disney, you suck! they would sell more dvds if frozen becomes the no 1 movie in history of japan, but they dont use their heads so much.

5m? Really? DVD sales were way bigger back then. Frozen will be lucky if it even gets half of that for DVD/BluRay combined sales, not because it won't sell, but because of the weak market. And Princess Mononoke is #2? I thought it was Finding Nemo? The DVD alone sold at least 1.5m copies. Why did they choose to break a record that is uncertain and relatively unimportant, over a record that arguably the most important one in the movie industry, and is certain to be broken if they let it play in the theater a little bit longer?

Either the guys in charge of dvd release at disney are incompetent at their jobs (I would not be surprised) or they're covering their asses by making it look like they planned this debacle. Of course far less people are interested in DVD sales in a foreign country than say, climbing the ww gross rankings or becoming the highest grossing film in a huge OS market, so they'll be taking less heat by making lame excuses like this. Looking at the sales figures for DVD and BR circulating around the world for Frozen (note that home video market regarding phisical supports is declining for many years in a row), I would say that in Disney are anything but incompetents. In many countries home video run is more impressive than that in cinemas. Remember that usually the revenue realized in cinemas do recover costs and pave the way for the home-market sales, which are those that are really earn, especially in animation or all kind of kid's movies, even if Frozen exceeded all expectations more than doubling production/distribution/marketing costs only with its teathrical revenues.

Oh come ON Disney!    I would think that you'd WANT Frozen to beat SA in Japan and DH2 WW, but NOOOO!  You HAD to go and shoot yourselves in the foot and be stupid by releasing the DVD early AGAIN.

... Is there ANY way we can stop this?  At all?  That reasoning is so silly and stupid that we have even more of a case to go up against them.
