In early evening Frozen outpaced the total of admissions of last sunday. At the end could be +15/20%.

Excellent. So it looks like it Frozen will continue its streak with a record 15th weekend.

I know people are disappointed with Frozen slowing down, but many seem to forget that even these reduced weekends now are still huge record setting weekends for this late in its run. So it's down to 3.2m, that is still better than any movie has ever done in its 15th weekend in Japan..

Ever since Frozen had the 2nd best 7th weekend it has broken the record every weekend after that, that's 8 consecutive weekends it has set a new record.

Weekend Estimates [06/21-22]

01 (01) ¥322 million ($3.1 million), -18%, ¥23.75 billion ($232.9 million), Frozen (Disney) Week 15
02 (--) ¥215 million ($2.1 million), 0, Mission: Impossible Samurai (Shochiku) DEBUT
03 (02) ¥163 million ($1.6 million), -36%, ¥765 million ($7.6 million), Noah (Paramount) Week 2
04 (--) ¥91 million ($900,000), Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary (Toei) DEBUT
05 (03) ¥79 million ($780,000), -16%, ¥265 million ($2.6 million), Climbing to Spring (Toho) Week 2
06 (--) ¥62 million ($610,000), 0, ¥80 million ($790,000), 300: Rise of an Empire (Warner Bros.) DEBUT
07 (04) ¥42 million ($410,000), -43%, ¥805 million ($8.0 million), Monsterz (Warner Bros.) Week 4
08 (05) ¥39 million ($380,000), -43%, ¥940 million ($9.3 million), X-Men: Days of Future Past (Fox) Week 4
09 (06) ¥37 million ($360,000), -33%, ¥1.02 billion ($10.0 million), A Bolt from the Blue (Toho) Week 5
10 (--) ¥29 million ($280,000), 0, The Round Table (Toho Video Division) DEBUT
11 (08) ¥21 million ($200,000), -32%, ¥160 million ($1.5 million), Persona 3 the Movie 2: A Midsummer Knight's Dream (Aniplex) Week 3
12 (07) ¥17 million ($165,000), -56%, ¥500 million ($4.9 million), All-Around Appraiser Q: Mona Lisa's Eye (Toho) Week 4
13 (09) ¥17 million ($160,000), -45%, ¥4.31 billion ($42.2 million), Thermae Romae II (Toho) Week 9
14 (10) ¥13 million ($125,000), -54%, ¥240 million ($2.3 million), Pompeii (Gaga) Week 3

>Frozen claims its 15th-consecutive week atop the box-office, the second most of any film after Spirited Away (16 weeks).  It's becoming more vulnerable but I don't think any of next weeks openers will manage to dethrone it, so tying the 16-week record looks pretty good.  It won't be able to hold off Maleficent and Edge of Tomorrow in its 17th weekend, however.

Frozen should be around ¥23.7/23.8 billion ($232/233 million) after 101 days in release.

>Mission Impossible: Samurai looks to have performed quite well and should give Shochiku another much needed ¥1 billion ($10 million) film for the year.

>Saint Seiya is very much an estimate as its difficult to determine how high its avg. ticket prices may have been.  Its estimated admissions are near 70,000, so if that's accurate, it might go a bit higher than what I have above.

>300: Rise of an Empire... well, unless it was playing on a lot more screens than Pompeii was (which could skew the estimates), bombed in high-fashion and could only reach ¥250 million ($2.5 million) with that opening.  That would be nearly a 85% decline from the first 300 film.

At this rate of decrease Frozen can see another 20% down next weekend to $2.5 million.

I still think it will pass $244 milllion to beat the record of "biggest boxoffice ever outside USA" :) Normally no one cares about the yen figure as they don't check the records/details to that extent. From an overseas boxoffice perspective it doesn't make sense to even talk about the yen (or any local currency) as the US dollar is what all the collections are reported in and kept track of. How the yen's value increased or decreased over the past few decades should not come into the calculation as what matters is the total profit in US dollars. Since we are not looking at the inflation rate anyway into our calculation factor we shouldn't be focusing on the yen (unless you are from Japan where it makes sense).

When do summer holidays for the schools/colleges start in Japan and will it have a significant affect on the boxoffice ? I am dreaming of an increase in boxoffice for Frozen during the summer holidays. (assuming it holds on to at least a decent amount of screens by then even with the competition)

$230 million by Spirited away was apparently an error in calculation due to the uncertainty of box office updates with the re-release of the movie.

The true value was $244 million, which Frozen has to beat to truly break the record.

Interesting, we will have to wait a day or so for the actuals to be announced. The $3.1 and $3.4 million at this point are estimates, although I think the $3.4 million is a more realistic estimate, which would mean it only dropped 12% from last weekend.

Deadline is also reporting that the weekend box office is $3.4 million (-12% from last weekend). Probably obtained data from rentrak.

http://www.deadline.com/2014/06/interantional-box-office-how-to-train-your-dragon-2-fault-in-our-stars-maleficent-china/

"Frozen, meanwhile, is still the No. 1 movie at the Japan box office for the 15th consecutive weekend. The decrease was 12% from the June 13-15 frame while that frame had been off 31% from the weekend prior. The Japanese cume is now $231.8M. In total, the animated pic directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, picked up $3.4M in Japan this frame, taking its overseas total to $858.4M and its worldwide cume to $1,259.1M."

I predicted 400m? I said it was possible. My prediction was 325. It was on pace.but there is no way wed was 1.2m w a 48 multiplier. So why bother. [mod edit] Rysu was very clear and yet you still hold on to your hindsight filled commentary. The v is above the space bar and you need a lesson str8 too? You dont know what that is?[mod edit]

I saw that the moderator has censored a comment of Mfantin / TE Lawrence containing insults against me.I wanted to clarify that I didn't ask for, in fact I replied with a joke.Mfantin / TE Lawrence isn't able to use the keyboard and to format tables (at least until I taught him), is speaking about Frozen during three months even if he has never seen it and he not like it, however, he is the most adorable and funny hater i have ever seen.
