JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

Recommended Posts

in the grand scheme of JP boxoffice history, Joker is rather trivial, but, only three superhero movies in top 100, and Spider-Man 2 (#99) sooner or later will be kicked out. Terminator 3 grossed more than Spider-Man, the highest grossing CBM there.

considering CBM in Japan, it's something, Joker is the first CBM since ASM that repeated as weekend #1.

Twitter trending has been crazy, definitely a pleasant surprise CBM "hit"!

certified now DC #1 film in Japan...and this Joker dancing down the stairs scene has been the talk of JP social media...

Dang. That's amazing.

At this point, I think the Joker costume is probably going to be a huge hit over there (and one of the biggest Worldwide) come Halloween.

With Joker now being the #1 DC Film in Japan, anyone got a good comparison with how much the other DC films made there?

Seems like Joker will win this day as it already surpass Maleficent which actually lead since the morning.

Really surprising consider that Maleficent have 402k seats vs Joker 316k seats, also Maleficent 1 perform really great here 6.7m OW and 63m total.

Also Joker just drop 15% from last week Lol

From WOKJ Corpse

I didn't have time to post a Weekend Forecast this week, but after looking at the numbers, I probably wouldn't have anyway. Since last Saturday was impacted so heavily by the typhoon, this Saturday saw increases above 100/200% across the board versus last week. It would have been very difficult to post a reliable forecast under these circumstances.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil opened this weekend, and it is...nearly bombing. It's going to debut in second place, well behind Joker's third weekend. A Disney live-action fantasy tentpole losing to a DC film in its third weekend is quite the headline.

I wasn't expecting Maleficent 2 to match the success of the original, and wouldn't have been shocked with a decline near 50% (not uncommon for questionable sequels released neither too early or too late), but it's actually looking at a possible 60%+ decline. Pretty harsh

Tomorrow will be a hard day with the Japan-South Africa at 19:30pm.

Last week when they played JPN vs SCO in Sunday, I thought until evening, number still look fine.

Then dip a little. Since 18.00 that day, If I remember it only make 15% of daily box office. Usually 25%, but Saturday number is really good so still enough to at least match last weekend gross.

They had a TV audience of 60m last Sunday, that's only going to get bigger tonight, and that doesn't even account for the fan zones all around the country.

So given the typhoon - and that a great many people have probably yet to see the Joker - does that mean the numbers will increase? And what would you estimate Joker's end-run in Japan would and could be?
