Founder / Operator Shawn Robbins Posted June 9, 2012 Founder / Operator Share Posted June 9, 2012 Just curious, but wouldn't the crowd pleasing aspect of TA possibly have an adverse effect on TDKR OW, perhaps that maybe people aren't as excited to see doom and gloom vs a feel good type of movie like TA and I'm not talking about the built in internet fanbase.. I'm talking about the General Audience?? I don't really think so. Nolan is arguably the most consistent crowd-pleasing filmmaker making movies right now (excluding Cameron, who isn't exactly "active" anyway). His Batman films may have dark overtones, but ultimately, they're uplifting in the end. Otherwise people wouldn't keep going to see them.
filmnerdjamie
The Variety guys are great (Fucking awesome job taking over for Fleming). But it was obvious they were blowing their wad saying $70M was in play for Prometheus.
skykisser
Boxoffice @Boxoffice Official Friday domestic estimate: $21.4 million for PROMETHEUS from 3,396 locations. Location avg. = $6,302.
yads
Prometheus opened well, but again, it'll fall of a cliff because of the word of mouth.100% agree with this. Prometheus is gonna die fast. I genuinely prefer Alien 3, and that's a movie with major problems.
Moviefanatic
Was Variety the one that said TA would have a hard time breaking Avatars second weekend record after a 29 million Friday or something?

Heretic
RotPotA was an average film. Highly unmemorable.Strongly disagree. I thought it was bloody brilliant.

Noctis
Thank you! Now I know I'm not the only one who was completely underwhelmed by that movie. Most of my friends were. Great visual effects, but other than that, it's way too ordinary. I found the action scenes to be rather boring, and Tom Felton's American accent was ATROCIOUS. druv10
FoolsWith that blunder, Variety took a credibility hit.
AniNate
As an American, I never had a problem with Felton's accent except for that forced "Damn Dirty Ape" line. You just can't sound convincing saying that with a contemporary American accent.I really liked it the first time I saw it, but the flaws became much more apparent on repeat viewings. I saw TDK once in the Theaters and that was enough for me, and I'll probably only see TDKR once as well if it is as dark. And I didn't feel any "uplifting" at the end of TDK. I have, however, watched Batman Begins several times - definitely my favorite of the two. Edited June 9, 2012 by Punishment

Seeing a movie one time in theaters is pretty common anyway. Only fans and movie buffs usually go more than 1-2 times.

Heretic
That's kinda meh for Prometheus. With the WOM this thing seems to be getting, 150m may even be in doubt.

I have, however, watched Batman Begins several times - definitely my favorite of the two.I kind of felt the same way about TDK for awhile after I saw it. I found it pretty depressing and wasn't sure I wanted to see it again, but I've grown to like it as much as everyone else does on further viewings.
