Rsyu
So $50m should happen, right? I'm really not confident that it will happen. TF3 had a multiplier of 2.22X. A similar multiplier for TF4 would mean a sub $50 million finish. TF3 had HP2 in it's 3rd week though so it probably cut into it's legs. TF4 needs a really decent hold next week for $50M to fall. chasmmi
I went to see Edge of Tomorrow in Gangnam on Saturday. Arrived at 3:30pm and the next available showing with seats available was at 8:35pm (and there were two cinema's to choose from). I could have gotten into the 4:30 showing of TF4 if I wanted to, it still had 25 seats remaining. Of course TF$ had at least about 12 different showings between 3:30 and 8:30 at the 2 cinemas compared to EOT's 5 or 6, but still I was surprised that EOT was still selling out screens all day in week 3 against the biggest new opener of the summer.

chasmmi
Gangnam is atown or theatre?...!! I thought it is a dance style... It's a district/high street in Seoul. It's one of the most expensive parts of Seoul to be in. The song/dance was a parody of how people go to gangnam and pretend to be classy and a high0roller when they really are not and are just putting on a front for others.
Rsyu
@Rsyu any biggies releasing in SK next week.......??? foreign nd local??? 2 local movies <Divine move> and <Mourning grave> is being released in the upcoming week. I'm backing <divine move> to continue the trend of local films bombing this year. <mourning grave> is a horror film and looks like it will do reasonably well. RTX
As for TF4 it will have the biggest OW of 2014 by virtue of taking half of the existing screens and having close to zero competition at the start of the summer holidays. Consider also South Korea's box office is much bigger than when TF2 or TF3 was released. If you think such a decrease is a win then suit yourself. I don't see the indications of SK market rapidly growing, in fact in terms of admissions, all three TF movies had very similar sales in SK. Perhaps the tickets got more expensive? TF3 had one extraordinary opening in SK, but it was also much more frontloaded than previous films, and it's easy to see why: finale factor and the novelty of being the first TF film in 3D. It's to early call TF4 a flop in SK, it may well be less frontloaded than TF3.

It's to early call TF4 a flop in SK, it may well be less frontloaded than TF3. I never said the South Korean box office market is rapidly growing, I said it is substantially larger than when TF2 and TF3 was released. Total admissions during the year that TF2 was released (2009) was 155 million and for TF3 (2011) it was 159 million. Since then the admission figures have steadily increased and just last year it hit 213 million admissions, an increase of around 27%. 2014 is largely on par with 2013. TF4 also took around 100 more screens than TF3 during it's opening week and around 400 more than TF2. Even if I agreed with what you say about TF3's opening week, opening lower than TF2 is just poor. TF4 by most movie standards isn't a flop and it never was going to be. Already it has 2.6 million admissions and it will likely be the third biggest film of 2014. What I am saying is it's going to decrease from TF3 by a large margin which is disappointing no matter how you try and spin it.
juni78ukr
T3 dropped by 30% on its 2nd weekend. You call that frontloaded?

Rsyu
South Korea monthly Box office (June) June Admissions and Gross: 3 year trend 2014 June Admissions: 15,872,585 -Foreign release: 11,423,632 -Local release: 4,448,952 Gross(KRW): 127.45 billion *1USD=1012.5 won Jan-June total -96,498,343 admissions -741.75 Billion KRW 2013 June Admissions: 17,553,956 -Foreign release: 9,286,387 -local release: 8,267,569 Gross(KRW): 128.16 Billion Jan-June total -98,499,984 admissions -724.07 billion KRW 2012 June Admissions: 14,211,515 -Foreign release: 6,550,805 -Local release: 7,660,710 Gross(KRW): 108.36 Billion Jan-June total: -83,261,832 admissions -642.38 Billion KRW Overall 2014 June box office admission numbers decreased marginally from 2013 but still managed to stay above 2012. The chief factor leading to this slump is undoubtedly the poor performance of local films. Local films only managed a shockingly low 4,448,952 admissions during June, a decline that brought it down to almost half of the June admissions of 2013. Out of the 4,448,952 <A hard day> accounted for 3,126,051 admissions almost 70% of the total figure. The next highest film, <No tears for the dead> managed a mere 601,972 admissions. The pressure is now on summer big-hits <Kundo: Age of the rampant> and <Roaring currents> to over-perform to compensate for all the local films that bombed this year. Things are much better for foreign releases having recorded one of it's biggest months ever. Strong performances from Tom Cruise's Sci-fi actioner <Edge of Tomorrow> as well as the new and improved <X-Men: Days of future past> and the opening week of <Transformers: Age of Extinction> led the way. July foreign releases <How to train your dragon 2>, <Dawn of the planet of the apes> and <Guardians of the Galaxy> as well as TF4:AoE should see it have another decent month.
