MonstersandRoy
Holy shit China! That's huge. Incredible how Fast & Furious has got bigger and bigger with each film. Is Star Wars going to be big in China and will that likely come out this year or next?
Quigley
The ceiling for this market keeps increasing because of the simple fact that an average of 18 new screens are being built PER DAY.
Cynosure
"In China on Sunday, Furious 7 opened to $68.8 million, the biggest single-day gross in history for the world's second-largest market. It was also the biggest day ever in terms of attendance." http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/global-box-office-furious-7-788011 Deadline has the $8.05M of the midnights corresponding to 1.3M admissions. That would put the OD at around 11.2M admissions. http://deadline.com/2015/04/international-box-office-furious-7-china-record-longest-ride-insurgent-paul-blart-1201408563/ Per Uni, that is the highest box office, widest release and biggest attendance ever in one day for the Middle Kingdom. Midnight shows put $8M in the tank with 1.3M admissions at 10,397 dates. Edited April 12, 2015 by Cynosure
tupek
So with a clear path F7 would do $500m??
Icicle
Not very good. OW to total is like 2.1-2.3 usually, can occasionally do much better than that though. (Age of Extinction is case in point) Age of Extinction had Li Bingbing and was partly set in Hong Kong, though. What kind of marketing did FF7 have that it can open this huge without any of that? seduh
I'm amazed at FF7 number. $250 should be no problem. ¿How can this movie grow some much from FF6?

alee7915
"Heavy rain and stormy conditions" did not deter Chinese moviegoers from racing to see Furious 7 at midnight screenings on Sunday. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/china-box-office-furious-7-788000
A Marvel Fanboy
Per Entgroup: http://www.cbooo.cn/movieday, at the moment 333m from 4558 theaters, total is 382m with Sunday midnight screenings. So complete data should be around 390m with midnight. PSA 104, average price 39, more than 10 million people went to see F7 on Sunday, marks F7 as perhaps the most attended movie, in history, on a single day in any country. This should be written into the Guinness Book. Seats per screen in China stands only about 140, so that means yeaterday averagely every screening was occupied 75% full whole day across the country, talking about the limits. Sidenote: most theaters in China only have 4~6 screens and most of the screens are in small halls (less than 150 seats). Sunday overal box office 380m without midnight, China's largest box office day in gross and attendance to date. A Marvel Fanboy
That's also a world record I believe. 10m admissions probably equals $80~100m OD in North America box office.

Is Star Wars going to be big in China and will that likely come out this year or next? This may not be best news for the rest of the year, there may be artificial "measures" taken to limit Hollywood titles from breaking out the rest of the way... peludo
Its looking more and more that it'll be the first non Cameron movie to do 1B OS First of all, welcome to the forums! If it is able to do that, it will be, again, unexpected. Both Titanic or Avatar were not favorite to do it, and although this was going to increase, I did not read anywhere that this could make what is doing. Box office, again, surprise us. Said this, I still think it will fail with that accomplishment because of TA2. DH2 figure could be the target.

I see a lot of countries are opening AOU on the 23rd, that'll hurt, China isn't til May 12. That's more than enough time to seize full potential and Japan will have til July. and May Day will bump it in both countries. Anyone expecting Japan to double up he BO from FF6? http://marvelcinematicuniverse.wikia.com/wiki/Avengers:_Age_of_Ultron/Release_Dates Edited April 13, 2015 by No Prisoners
