However on the other hand most people are fond of SC's sister Xialing, the actress doesn't have a "bad reputation" in the mainland and her character doesn't have a controversial comic origin either, perhaps Marvel will push her instead. Au contraire it looks like the charcater will have more sequels regardless of what happens in China Edited September 9, 2021 by Mau

Feige also repeated the same things again in his late interview for Weibo. But who could foresee it end up in this circumstance? LOL if you think Shang Chi won't get a sequel or be in all the major crossovers. 2

He has no EQ or what. The interview is going viral in China.. i know it may not be recent but he has to be careful with his words. If anyone has any doubts about China, go down to China today and see how much she has advanced. I am from Singapore and when I visited Shang Chi in 2016... I was freaking amazed. Went to read more comments on Weibo this morning; there are rationale netizens there... a lot of them. And they pointed out it is okay to say there were people starving in China but it seems almost deliberate for Simu to use the word "communism" in his sentence... Only time will tell, but I can't see any strong reason for them to keep pushing a character and the film that were carefully tailored for mainland China but then gets rejected by mainland China. Well unless, against all odds, this film still miraculously gets an official release date in the mainland Edited September 9, 2021 by Arian1010

Well yes, is the communist party of China deny that is parent grew up in communism China ? It was socialism not communist if people get technical about it, but it is the common language way to talk and was the official one I think by the authorities. Just relaying what I saw, like i said in my previous post - i help to translate and share stuff here - don't come at me as if it was my own opinion and I have to defend it. LOL. I think the interview was about why he came to Canada, you know people can always talk about the "pull" factors instead of focusing on the "push" and then further elaboration using the word communism. I am not saying what he said is wrong; and again.. reread what I said previously - i don't even think he meant to offend anyone. But sometimes it is not the intention that matters; sometimes it is how the message is received.. It's irrelevant if it was "taylor made for China" if it's sucessful either way, like there is no logic of that mindset.

I agree that Western outlets made it look like SC film mostly catered to Asian Americans, and I know some of them even suggested that Hollywood shouldn't try to reach out to China market since it has strong censorship. But BO members like us should have known better than that shouldn't we? It's a blatant fact that Disney and Feige cared about China market. Even in the Endgame world premiere that was held in China, Feige publicly told local journalists that he was very excited for phase 4 because they were gonna make a film about a Chinese superhero. He cared about mainlanders' criticism and made his best effort to die down the rumors that Shang Chi film was made with racist purpose etc. Objectively, Marvel is already a big established and trustworthy brand, they don't need Shang Chi character and Shang Chi sequels to survive in the US market, most of their films were and will be a big hit among the general audience anyway, instead of spending money on making a film about SC they could simply make films about other superheroes. It's not like Chinese moviegoers are gonna against the entire Marvel brand because of SC. Edited September 9, 2021 by Arian1010

I assumed Disney would not care about it, since Most pixar films do so poorly there. Who would have thought it is the only one released there since Raya and Cruella
