I'm back from covid! Been coughing my lungs off these past few days.

Anyway, TWE2 won't move. Zhang Yimou's new movie ''Full River Red'' just announced the New Year release date, it's a major contender. Even if A2 gets extension, it can't compete against local blockbusters. A2 still has two weeks to earn money.

Welcome back. Hope you are doing well.

Cameron did say that the proposal for teh Chinese avatar rerelease came from the Chinese side. Maybe thats bs but also makes it realistic for it to happen again in a later month where Chinese Box Office doesnt have a money maker playing and both sides belive A2 can make some 100m-200m in a rerelease outside of Covid chaos

Problem is that was covid times, where they needed to put something on screen without jeopardising a local release and there was nothing new from hollywood they could sacrifice. I really don't get the expectation for the film to re-release AFTER China recovers. They'll just push local releases once that's over.

A re-release could only happen under the same scenario like Avatar's 2nd re-release, that is week before the next movie is coming out as a limited re-release. Outside of that, I don't see it getting any re-release there, there is simply no need for it. Once things become normal, the long list of native movies that haven't been released from 2021/2022 are ready to hit theaters, 2023/2024 will have an very busy schedule.

At this point I want a extended run for Avatar 2 more than a re-release, even if that mean little number over CNY period,

Agreed brother Titanic

🦝👍. I think it would get another 400-500m or more if done right and released in better conditions

Maoyan currently forecasts "Avatar: The Way of Water" to complete its box office run in China with about 1.15 billion yuan (around $165 million)

Hopefully we can do a bit better than that🦝😉

Do you know why the numbers are different on http://english.entgroup.cn/boxoffice/cn/daily/?

For exemple, as per this site, ATWOW has made $3.71M and has reached $115.97M as of yesterday, December 28th.

Nevermind, just realised that their ER is wrong.

Exchange rate diffs. ENT is using some weird 6.75 ER. Actual ER is $1=¥6.97
