Best films that bombed or disappointed at the Box Office

As a Civil War buff:

 

Glory

 

I'm not sure if it was expected to do much more than it did, but $27m is pretty low for how good a movie it is.  Guru shows the budget at 18M, so I don't think it made it's budget back during its theater run.

Agreed. Excellent film with disappointing run. Same as Shawshank redemption.

 

Also, as a teenager I really liked First Knight and was annoyed by its run.

I don't know that I would say Warner Bros was disappointed with the grosses for Cloud Atlas. Not a penny of the film's massive budget came from them, so if they lost any money on it, it was solely on prints and advertising.

 

I just watched Children of Men for the first time in nearly five years. I wish that one had done better at the box office, but it was an immensely difficult sell from the start given its grim setting. At least Cuaron got to make Gravity, and that one has been a big hit.
