There's essentially an oversaturation of stars (at least that's how I'd put it). Now that our attention is spread out over TV, social media, politics, etc., it's hard for there to be a film actor that really "stands out"

Sure, but Tom Cruise was already a huge star by 1985 and so was Gibson, and Big is one of Hanks' most iconic roles of his career and that 1988. I'm talking decades they broke out and became stars, not necessarily primes. Hell Leo is a second or even third prime right now but he's been big since I was born.

that's true i've thought about that too. if youtubers were the new 'A-List' i know i saw some study where among teens favourite celebs the top 10 was like 9 youtubers and 1 movie star (think it was Leo). though none of them really have the charisma or unique viewpoint worth paying attention to. maybe that's the point idk i'm too old for it it's still new and scary to me.

Leo's name still carries a lot of weight, mostly bc he picks the right roles.

I'm 18 and it's weird to me as well.

 

I haven't followed YouTube stars since I was like 14 or so. It just kind of died out for me. They're more about getting clicks than real content, but hey, that's the game nowadays.

I'd put Michael B Jordan in that star category unconditionally. I was super ready to put Riz Ahmed and Oscar Isaac but they're not only under 30, they're over 35. Both superstars IMO and both feel fresh. Gambino too. IDK if I feel it for any other dude but Patel and Boyega have potential I guess. Trevante Rhodes, Emory Cohen and the guy playing Han Solo have all impressed me, but who knows at this point cuz it's only been like one or two roles. There's a ton of great women and an excellent bunch of young comedians cropping up, so that's something.
