IndustriousAngel
Wall-E was brillant as long as they were on earth, and even after it just was not as good, but never insulting.Horror films try mostly to transgress moral or ethic or behavioural borders to make us feel uneasy, and since most of those rules apply to society as a whole, we could say that Horror as a genre has to be "insulting". But with Horror, it's always directed at the individual: They want to scare you, in the seat, not society as a whole. It's the rare horror flick that leaves the core group and gets discussed outside of genre papers. (I remember that Rosemary's Baby, The Omen, and Alien generated discussions in mainstream papers)Then there are some films which truly try to transgress moral codes (and I don't mean porn). "Pink Flamingos" comes to mind, which got banned in quite a few countries. Or french borefest "Themroc" (one of the few films during which I fell asleep). Lumos
Has anyone here seen The Eternal Jew (1940)? It's a Nazi propaganda film that shows Jews as an uncivilized and parasitic people. I believe it's on youtube if any history buffs wants to watch it. Very disturbing film....but helps explain why the Germans hated Jewry. I believe it's on youtube if any history buffs wants to watch it. Very disturbing film....but helps explain why the Germans hated Jewry. No, it's the other way round. First came the racial theories (that was not a german domain, they were state of the art in the scientific world, together with phrenology), plus there has always been christian anti-semitism. When politicians begann searching for scapegoats during the economy crisis after WW1, the jews were an easy target, together with other, smaller groups and intellectuals (nobody likes a wise guy). A lot of jews left Germany on a more or less voluntary base during the 20s and 30s, many of them hailing from the then big german film industry - most of those emigrated to California where many ended up very successful. Only then the german film industry was taken over by the nationalists, and then the production of propaganda films started (the most notorious one is "Jud Süß" btw).
