Avatree
Chris Pratt and Jennifer lawrence could star in a film together where they are grocery baggers and it would hit $100m. I would be shocked if a sci-film set in space,(even if it is romance) with a Oscar nominated director, starring young Meryl Streep and King of the Box office man. releasing in December. didn't hit $100m. Except, neither Jlaw nor Pratt have demonstrated that they can pull big numbers based on their names.

Kalo
Except, neither Jlaw nor Pratt have demonstrated that they can pull big numbers based on their names. Either Jlaw and Pratt are BO draws or they have the best agents in the world. Look I kind of see what your saying, we are past the days where people going to movies in masses based on who is in it, but both Jlaw and Pratt have so far made excellent career decisions that have skyrockets their careers and made them moviestars. if this film isn't any good then it probably won't make that much money, but if it is good, and chances are it will be. they have enough star power to get people to see it who may not otherwise. Ethan Hunt
SLP's numbers were not solely down to her name. Come on, the GA knows SLP as that movie with Jenifer Lawrence
John Marston
You could maybe make a case for JLaw but Pratt? Lolz
babz06
SLP's numbers were not solely down to her name. THG made her a movie star, so i dont know how you could say that SLP, American Hustle wasn't helped by her name. Pratt is the one who has more to prove, he's only led pre-established brands up to this point. Edited September 10, 2015 by babz06
Sadie1
Come on, the GA knows SLP as that movie with Jenifer Lawrence I would say the GA knows it as both a Bradley Cooper and a Jennifer Lawrence movie.
4815162342
Come on, the GA knows SLP as that movie with Jenifer Lawrence SLP never had a weekend higher than 10.75 million, and that was its 10th Weekend. It made money from legs, word of mouth, and critics/awards buzz. Edited September 10, 2015 by 4815162342
4815162342
When you look at her filmography, take out her supporting roles, the platform Oscar releases, and the Hunger Games (which was first sold as the YA phenomenon and then became a franchise draw in its own right), JLaw has only one wide opener sold purely on her: House at the End of the Street. And to be fair, opening a horror film dumped for dead in the middle of September to 12.3 million ain't too shabby.

You should just say most stars are only as strong as the films as they are in. Cause...that's true. But still...this point seems a bit silly. Hey, her one horror movie that came out after her first mega hit didn't do amazing numbers!

4815162342
So, if you take out her entire career... She's not much of a draw? Almost all of her films have not relied on her being a draw. X-Men was pre-sold. Hunger Games was pre-sold, first as the book phenom and then as the breakout franchise with a built-in audience. SLP was a platform release sold primarily as a DOR film, then starring Bradley Cooper. Etc. Pretty much every film she has been in she either wasn't the face of it, or the film was primarily sold through other angles. When she starts headlining films in her own right where she is the focus of marketing and attention, then we can start calling her a draw. The advertising for American Hustle seemed to be sold more directly on her, at least here in the UK.
Jessie
Except, neither Jlaw nor Pratt have demonstrated that they can pull big numbers based on their names. no-one can, but Jlaw has proven to be one of the most bankable stars of the moment and Pratt is just on a roll, people love that guy.
