Thurs Numbers RTH: Purge 3.4 midnights/early

Recommended Posts

Will this cause “You're Next" to flop? That one looks amazing, but I fear audiences will probably think all of these strangers-invade-a-home films are the same...

I hope not, but I am worried.  You're Next is a far, far, far better movie.  I'm think that maybe since it is more of a slasher type home invasion horror film it can find it's own audience.  It also rightfully deserves and relishes its R rating.

#IfThePurgeWasHappeningInRealLife is also trending right now. #SurviveTheNight and #IfThePurgeWasReal is also 2 other hashtags that have trended the last few weeks. The free marketing here is people are putting themselves in the Purge and talking about what they would do, which is free WOM. This is the first time I've seen this on Twitter.

Woohoo. Horror needed another hit this year.

The Purge has come out of no where. It only got this release date afew months ago.

Marketing has been terrific, congrats to Platinum Dunes and the marketing department at Universal.

To answer an earlier question about a film covering it's budget from midnights, Paranormal Activity 2 and 3 did too.

It's just a horror thing, obviously, ;)

Paranormal Activity 2 : $6,300,000 midnights - $5,000,000 budget
Paranormal Activity 3 : $8,000,000 midnights - $5,000,000 budget
The Devil Inside : $2,000,000 midnights - $1,000,000 budget

Problem with horror genre is that all these movies are shit and the genre itself is suffering while some crafty producers are getting very, very rich. I don't want to get into a debate but when the genre becomes synonymous with bad movies then its long-term survival itself becomes questionable.
