Boxoffice.com's Top 100 Films of All Time 2013: THE RESULTS (final list in OP)

Recommended Posts

Well when you have things like HBO, and your local arthouse theatre getting bought by cineplex, you really have all the reason to stay at home and not go to the theatres.

NYC has an IFC theater downtown. I never went there but I drive by all the time. Visit NYC....you'll have a blast.

The Dark Knight would have been #2!Good stuff Sims, hopefully my Top ComicBook movies 2013 will be just as good. I'm going to spice it up this year since it seemed like It was simple fanboy ranking last year. I'm just waiting for Thor 2 to be released.

Gladiator had the lowest average RT score at 6.5 (Forrest Gump had the lowest RT score at 71%).

Spider-Man 2 had the lowest IMD score at 7.4

The lowest RT/IMD combined average score was

Gladiator at 7.5

- That surprises me :(

The Social Network and Network movies had the highest average RT score at 9.5 (10 movies had a 100% RT score).

The Shawshank Redemption had the highest IMD score at 9.3

The highest RT/IMD combined average score was ... drumroll please ....

The Godfather and The Godfather II movies at 9.2

I know. The counter-arguments for that are movies like Black Swan, True Grit, King's Speech, Lincoln, Django, etc. I agree in general with what you're saying -- that studios are increasingly throwing the majority of their effort behind teen-oriented action/fantasy/superhero stuff -- but that's been happening ever since Star Wars.

NO.

Just no.

You are both making a fundamental error.

You are only keeping from the past what you think has value according to your cinephile standards.

But  do you really think that the 50's, 60's & 70's were only full of the films your are mentionning, the masterpieces you are being nostalgic about without seing them in their context ?

You think blockbusters and teen orientated films started after Star Wars  ?

Think again : peplums, westerns, exploitation, sci fi, Ray Harryhussen movies, distasters films, Universal Horror films, Hammer horror films, kung fun movies and samurai movies from asia, etc etc etc  those films they were the blockbusters of their times, the films aimed at teens, and each year there were  dozens of them released and history only kept the cream of the crop , like today there are a lot of super heroes films  and only a few will be remembered.

DO I have to remind you that when auteurs ruled Hollywood (mid 70's until the death of the auteur with Michael Cimino's Heaven's Gate which killed United  Artists, a company run by artists), well Hollywood wasn't doing that well box office wise in the 70's and Star Wars changed a lot of things for a reason : it made more money than most political and social dramas( even if some of them were big successes)

I won't deny today we have more teen oriented movies and fantasy blockbusters but the change is less radical than you might think.

And if you look at a 2013 movie schedule, you still have hundreds of adult dramas released each year, they rarely go wide in the states but they do exist.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Maybe you didn't quite understand Woody Allen's brilliant message in Midnight in Paris ?

What are real stories to you ric?  Do they all involve death and disease?  Humans dealing with "real issues"?  What's so great about watching reality when films are supposed to transport you to another reality.  I'll take Transformers any day over Amour.  Amour is a great movie but it's not something I'd like to watch again and again.  Transformers on the other hand, takes me away.  It shows me a world that doesn't exist and that thrills me.  Your opinion is yours and that's fine, but it doesn't mean the films you like are any better than ones others like.

FUCKING PREACH IT BROTHER !
