Huge US Hispanic popuation worked wonders.

So then why don't all Spanish language films open like that? Outside of a pair of Jet Li Chinese films (Hero and Fearless), INI just had by far the biggest foreign OW. I keep a pretty good eye out on indies and even foreign films and I for one never even heard of it until now. What's behind its success? There's gotta be something.

I saw a trailer for it on a friends X-Box a few weeks ago, it looked amusing I will admit, but in all honesty I'm not sure.

Well in 2004 a film called "Woman Though art Loose" was in the top 10, which was odd as the film was limited, but it apparently did quite well in Urban markets. (I don't even know if it opened here).

its not that I don't believe it, its just that a film that no one has heard of was able to come in 5th place. To get 7 million out of only 300 something locations? Almost all showtimes had to sell out for this to get that much money.

Not all theaters were offering the double feature; I know mine wasn't

Only 2 theaters in town are showing it though...

(And nobody is going to the movies tonight as I said earlier due to flash floods, which happened on Wolvie's OD, still no films have had sellouts since TLR/DM2.)

AMC Empire 25(Biggest $$$ theater in USA) is showing INI.It's heavy here in NY. It's been heavily marketed on all Spanish channels including Univision and Telemundo.

I don't know, I feel like Oprah is going to be lock for supporting Actress.  I think it will be a battle but "The Bulter" will get the nods. Can't wait to see "12 Years".

Well Planes will easily be in the top 3 on Monday, maybe even top 2, not sure yet, given how family films perform on Labor Day.

Since 2012, I've been looking ahead to 2015 so to see such numbers (and records) for 2013 came as a surprise.

We're going to see more foreign language releases like Instructions Not Included in the near future, especially if it holds in subsequent weeks.  Just watch.
