Just finished the first two in IMAX before the new one in 10 mins. Main thing that struck me is that Into Darkness has an insanely good opening act, but can't keep that up once they capture Kahn. Still a great movie though.

I'm with you. The first 45 minutes are fantastic and on point. Great pacing. However once they get on the ship after Kronos the movie goes downhill. Interested in your thoughts on the new one.

Two hardcore Trekkies were sitting in the theatre lobby all day today in their outfit, waiting for their screening tonight. Eventually, I went up and talked to them.

"You guys know that if you already have your tickets, you probably don't need to be here more than 30 minutes before the show starts. Go enjoy your day."

"nah man, if Star Wars sold out opening night, I ain't taking no chance. Trek has got more fans than you think."

Well I texted my boss and right now the show starts in 30 minutes. Maybe a dozen people are there (but there's starting to et a line) and these two guys are still in the lobby.

According to Deadline

Quote

Fandango reported this morning that advance ticket sales for Star Trek Beyond are outpacing its previous installment Star Trek Into Darkness at the same point in its sales cycle. That movie directed by J.J. Abrams went on to open to $70.2M and leg out to $228.8M.  The first Skydance/Bad Robot Star Trek opened to $79.2M and ended its stateside run at $257.7M.

How big is the auditorium it's playing in?

So this was fun. A very nice (and much needed - considering what seems to be going down in #4) breather from all the set-up and timeline hijinks of the first and the grandiose of Into Darkness. Missed JJ's visual flairs (and the lens flares) at first but glad Lin made it more of his own thing, in fact I was surprised how much he did make it more his own thing. It's a 50th anniversary celebration at its simplest - just a straight up 2hr big-screen original series story. Very much independent and its own thing.

Everyone was really great, the core trio (Pine, Quinto and Urban) especially - great of them to focus far more on the characters this time. Loved Boutella as Jaylah, I really hope unlike Eve in Into Darkness we get her back in the 4th film (ideally - get both her and Eve back). Giacchino's score is aces as usual too.

Overall - very solid and just great, surprisingly chilled, fun.

That's a good sign but it doesn't say a lot though as pre-sales are getting bigger every year.

Yeah, three year old comparisons in online pre-sales is almost worthless unless they say it's not doing as well.  They need to do a comp from this year or last year at the latest.

LINDICATED.

I enjoyed the heck out of this and thought it was the most enjoyable movie I've seen all year.

Thought it had a strong blend of action, humor, and soul. The climax is a bit of a letdown as it continues to drag on but the ending itself was very nicely done.

Just got back from Seeing the movie, may be the first time the lack of lens flares was actually distracting in a movie to me.

But once I got past that, I loved the movie, it was slower pace than STID, more time for character moments, with some badass action scenes.

Sits about 300. Apparently it was relatively busy tonight, no sell-outs but my manager said it could do okay for the night considering it only has 2 showings.

........Oh.

I watched all the first 6 Star Treks in a row all for the first time I saw any of them. I never understood the hate, they are in the same ballparkish range of quality. The score is great and the cinematography, camera movement and cutting I think are better than both of Nimoy's. Search for Spock is the most static and Tv like of all the 6 movies.
