redfirebird2008
I'm not going to lie. If this ends up below 135M OW, I'll be the happiest person on earth, lol. No, I can think of a certain dude in India who will be happier than you.
Empire
Delivery Man took away a lot of business. The power of Vaughn is back! Catching Fire underperformed so bad, Delivery Man will be #1. Edited November 22, 2013 by Empire
Accursed Arachnid!™
That's because critics have zero effect on how a sequel performs. A sequel performs based on how well the first film was received by an audience. But in CF's case, like Potter and Spiderman and Empire Strikes Back, just to name a few, when the first films blows up, the second has nowhere to go but down. Avengers and Avatar sequels have a very long uphill climb to buck that trend.

baumer
Avengers and Avatar sequels have a very long uphill climb to buck that trend. Two films that made more than 600 mill? I don't see any possible scenario where that happens again. Even if Avatar loses 20% of it's business, that puts it around 600 mill, but I don't think magic will strike twice. cozmeesah
I think a couple people aren't realizing that right now "flop" is being thrown around in this thread just to be funny. It's just what this board does. Look at who's saying it, even the fans of the film like iceroll are calling it "flop." That's the joke.
Mojoguy
Panda 2 is one of the notable ones. Iron Man 2 also made less than the first. The first two Iron Man movies did about the same DOM, there wasn't much of a decrease at all. That's good when you compare how much Spider-Man 2 decreased from the first Spider-Man movie. Also Iron Man 2 increased OS from the first movie by 45 million.
ChD
My follow-up question is why do some sequels go up after break out hit originals (DMC, The Hangover 2, Transformers 2) and others go down? Curse of the Black Pearl was a real home video hit, so that explains Dead Man's Chest. The Hangover 2 actually dropped. Transformers 2 has the same story as the first Pirates. Big home video hit. It's not enough that they perform well in theaters. There will always be someone who leaves the theater disappointed, not having liked the movie. What after after theaters, when it come on DVD, is what matters. Pirating/Buying DVD's and thing such as allow people who haven't seen the movie in theater, to see it, and most probably, like it. That's what assures them to be there on OW if there'a sequel. Edited November 22, 2013 by ChD
