LOL the effect of piracy is not over rated. In my college EVERYONE watches movies illegally online. Whenever people feel like watching a movie, they automatically go online to find a version of the film to connect to a tv. Piracy is a very big problem.

Eh at my college everyone is too obsessed with Netflix to care whats out now. Piracy isnt big here, especially since our tickets statewide are still some of the cheapest in the country, but i admit its a bigger issue than people think. Edited by Jandrew

I don't get when people say studioheads don't care if another movie outgrosses their movie as long as their's was a success.  While that may be true to an extent, it's hard to not to imagine studioheads being at least a little bit competitive for their movies to be more successful than others.

Like, even though the Hobbit 2 is just extra cash right now, I still think the studio head of Warner Bros must be a little mad to see a movie 5 weeks old overtake his for first.  It's pride and ego, studioheads aren't robots (surprising I know).

They care more about the bottom line, money. No reason for them to be upset if CF beats IM3 domestic as it has OS and WW locked up for the year.

GO CF AND FROZEN!!!!

And as much as I'd like to say Disney cares about THG series, please. They could give a rat's furry pink ass what THG is doing, when their films are making 1.2B like it's a piece of cake. Not to mention they still yet another series to flesh out (star wars).

American Piracy laws are much tougher, my friends who went to the States for college say that they've gotten notices about torrenting so they either stream or use Netflix.  Though Neflix has kind of a shitty movie selection, if you really want to see a movie, the theater's still the way to go.

I saw posters for That Awkward Moment starring Zac Efron, Michael B. Jordan, and Miles Teller at theaters recently. And noticed that it'll be released end of January. Do we have a thread for that movie here?

As much as I love Frozen (and am surprised it's #1,) anyone who says it's doing so well just because of WOM is sorely mistaken. It does have great WOM, but the main cause of success, as I said in my club back in June, is that there is zero competition for it despite the kids audience being the strongest during the holiday season. It's bigger than any of us expected and a combination of good WOM and zero competition has done this.

A lot of man-candy in that movie. Should be big with the female audiences.
