Not surprised but still excellent for Lone Survivor.  I'm most impressed with August:OC if those numbers hold.  That would be over a 10K per theater average and that is nothing to scoff at considering this has definitely been marketed as an indie film with a very well known ensemble cast.

So 2 mill is a Friday number for Her?  And that's a flop?  It's not even in 1800 theaters.  So if it does 5 mill, that's kind of expected....imo.

I'm honestly surprised movies like HER get made.  It's really niche and that's being kind.

 

Because people like Megan Ellison, fortunately, care more about letting artists do their thing and not as much about getting an immediate financial return on their investment.

Absolutely right. Flop will be if the film does not pay the budget, not if the box office is not what they want.
