I have a very soft spot for it and it is consistently exhilarating. It's the only film in the series where I felt for the characters.

A-

Its sequels receive an F and a C-/D+, respectively.

Love it! Love it! Love it! I had come to this void in my theatrical going life where I just didn't find anything appealing to get worked up about going to see it at the theater. Last time I was amped up would have been ROTK.Transformers brought my ass back to the movie seats again, and I have become a fan since then. Favorite part, I still cry laughing at the "Sam's Back Yard" scene, some of the best comedic moments in a long while!

Quite possibly the worst film I have ever had the misfortune of seeing, I hated every part of it. I hated the story, the acting and the "humour". All this could have been forgiven in a film like this if I at least liked the action, but I hated that too, I found it to be a blurry mess. I don't know how you could make a film worse than this abomination, but supposedly its sequels are, so I'm glad to have never seen them.

Easily F.

Lol I think its quite strange..

Back in 2007, after the rather poor May with Spider Man 3, Shrek 3 and Pirates 3 being all huge let downs from their previous parts...

In North America, audiences went beserk for Transformers making it the most well liked movie of the year in 2007 by audiences and it becoming one of the biggest all time hits on Home Video. The movie was watched numerous times by people on DVD and on TV.

Then came the sequels and then I noticed people's opinion of TF started to shift...

Now TF2 and Tf3 were not good films at all, but TF1 still has a very enoyable quality to it that the Tf2 and TF3 lack..

For example i have watched TF1 once in theaters, 3 times on DVD and a dozen times on TV.

I have only seen TF2 twice and Tf3 only once in theaters..

The film is a bit silly but it is pure popcorn action done quite right...

Just because Tf2 and Tf3 suck so bad, does not mean TF1 was a terribile film...

I remember back in 2007, people on BOM and world of KJ were going crazy over this film lol

B+

You sound like a Bay hater more than anything.

I don't hate films because of the director, when I watched the film I didn't even know who he is. While I cant say that his previous films were incredible, I did enjoy Armageddon and Pearl Harbor. My hate is specifically for this abomination of a film.

This still holds up. Great fun, likable characters both human and mecha, great effects and action (TFs feel so real, incredible integration with humans),great score (I don`t get hate for Jablonsky cause Allspark theme and Arrival to Earth are freakin awesome and epic and emotional). It even pay an homage to Kill Bill.

I love Michael Bay. he has the best heart of anyone in the business and he doesn`t pander to fanboys.

Watched it with commentary, here are some of the interesting things I learned:

Bay has full co-operation with the military because they like how he makes them look in his films.

Bay has the phone number to the Pentagon and when he needs military help, he calls them.

Spielberg called Bay personally and wanted him to direct the film.

When Spielberg and Bay were watching a rough cut of the film in Bay's house, Spielberg would high five him when he liked certain scenes

Megan Fox first met Bay when she auditioned for Amityville Horror, he always liked her (obviously she's hot) and kept her in mind for future projects

Shia had that nervous energy during his reading and Bay liked him enough that he asked Spielberg about him.  Spielberg had cast Shia in Distrubia and approved.

Jon Turturro told Bay that he was modeling his character after Bay, he told Bay that is how he comes across to his actors. Bay thought it was kind of funny.

The Hoover Dam really is 7 football fields thick in concrete.

Bay got death threats for things as small as putting fire stripes on one of the Transformers

He was allowed to film at the Hoover Dam.

Hans Zimmer did a little work on the film with Jablonsky

Bay feels that 50% of the movie is music

There's a homeless guy named Ron, who appears in the movie. Bay says he knows everything there is to know about movies and the business and he just loves movies.  Bay offered him money to be in Transformers, and he refused the money.  He hitched his way to Detroit to be there for the shoot.  Bay then put him up in a hotel and has promised him a role in every film Bay makes.  Bay didn't say if he would accept payment or not.

Hugo Weaving recorded all his lines from New Zealand

Bay sounds giddy when he talks about being able to cast Jon Voight

He was also very happy to get Duhamel and Gibson

Bay keeps track of the box office of his films.  When he recorded the commentary for the film, it was at 250 mill and he knew it would hit 300.  He also said they would do "around 350 internationally".  He states proudly that he was close to Spider-man 3 and POTC3

Bay likes to use real stunts as much as possible.  He tries to avoid blue or green screen as much as possible.

The scene where Shia is hanging onto the building near the end, with the Allspark, it's really him hanging off the building.  It's not green screen.  He was secured with wires.  But that is really him clinging to the building 500 feet up in the air.

During the scene where they put a phone in Transformers testing box, Bay wanted to use an I-phone, Jobs wouldn't allow it, so they used a Nokia.

In both the adult and kids screening, they got a 94% approval rating.

Bay says that studios will decide how much they will spend on marketing AFTER they screen it for an audience.

Bay put his entire fee on the line to guarantee that Transformers would make money.  So he did not get paid a salary for the film and he took a back end cut, which obviously paid off handsomely for him.

He had not signed on to do Transformers 2 yet, as of this recording.

Not from the commentary, but doing my own research, Transformers is the 12th biggest grossing original (meaning non sequel) film domestically.

WW, it is 16th.
