IM is the most mature Avengers film easily. 

 

Yup, they tried to follow that darker route for the Marvel universe initially but I think the tepid reception of The Incredible Hulk made them change tactic and provide the brighter and lighter foil to DC's bleaker fare.

With reported grosses, we're at ~182M for the weekend. 200M 4-Day is a given, 2010's 209M should go down, but 09's 231 is probably a longshot.

2008 was superb on the summer blockbuster front. IM, TDK, Wall-E, Kung Fu Panda, Wanted, Tropic Thunder, even Speed Racer though it bombed spectacularly, was an incredibly fun romp. IJ4 and Hancock were disappointments, and TIH was so-so, but overall, one of the stronger summers.

I remember Iron Man was not hyped much it pretty much got a lot of buzz with a cool trailer showing Iron Man getting chased by fighter Jets...

 

Then WOM spread after opening weekend.

Its hard for some here to understand, but sometimes the biggest films of the year are sometimes the best films of the year.

 

 

Sometimes the best films of the year are not the award films, 2008 and 2012 are clear examples.
