@tawasal

TFA used 10+ years of hype from the last film (sound familar?)

Age of Ultron was a poor film

Batman Begins.

Empire is a decent example of your point.

Phantom Menace and Aotc were both poorly received

With 11 years inflation Avatar 2 would outgross Avatar with that spiderman % drop

@tawasal would you pull up the numbers for Alien vs Aliens and Terminator vs Terminator 2?

Come on you wanna compare a movie that made 65m in 1984 and the sequel in 1991 that made 204m. That is not the same league as going from 760m to 950m if we go by IronJimbo's 25% jump. And the Aliens were long ago. Compare it to more recent movies.

Increase from 205m is not that big of an ask compared to 760m.

That's it. Move the goal posts ;)

Pathetic. Would comparing them really be such a task? You were so keen just a short time ago to give us all "a little boxoffice history".

Lothar my friend, you're being idiotic - we can use Terminator to Terminator 2 as a perfectly fine comparison.

It's why I am not at all joking when I say I believe A2 can do over 10B WW.

I knew about this, but this is the only occurence where the first movie made over 300m and the sequel had an increase.

Its highly unlikely, but it’s not impossible. However, all these success stories — while big hits — were among not the enormous All-Timers that we’re talking about here. It’s an order of magnitude more difficult as you reach the tiers of 400m+ (in fact, I don’t think it’s been done before).

I wouldn't have it any other way.

Come on beating 65m in 1991 would be like if Avatar made anything bellow 400m in 2009 I would say it had 80% of beating that. But 760m is a huge number itself.
