The Dark Knight Rises OS Discussion Thread/700M+ OS CLUB

I was expecting 12M for this in India earlier.... but now dropping it to 10M. Might even miss the mark.

The release date will help it in India. It is the only wide release next week, Bol Bachchan will be in week 3, Cocktail will be second wekend and Kya Super Kool Hai Hum (KSKHH) is a week away. KSKHH is the only major competition it faces till August 15 when "Ek Tha Tiger" will crush everything in its path.Will it collect as much as Amazing Spider-Man did, probably not. But i can see it doing M:i4 numbers. The longer run time will not be a factor here since audiences are used to long movies and the interval will help things.

great article about why TDKR will underperform in Russia

main reason - terrible promotion

    [*]only 4 of 25 posters translated;

    [*]nothing more than 3 trailers of the huge variety of video is released in russian;

    [*]site localized superficially

    [*]advertising brochures and other paper promo is not yet delivered in all theatres

    [*]TV spots starting only next week (no tv spots during Euro)

in the end it is said that WB simply doesn't care of the final gross of TDKR here and if any other local branch of major studios would release Nolan's movie, it would have grossed more

studio estimate was 1 billion rubles ($30.6 mill) but now kinometro and kinobizon estimates are almost 10 mill dollars less

The only positive thing is release is REALLY wide - 1500 screens

Yep. Russia is in top 5 in terms of BO. I think it deserves much more attention in promoting and releasing movies from WB. Quality of PR is equal to what Disney did 3-4 years ago here. And it happens in fast-growing market. Just weird

I think the power of the film alone will make 20m, but with a proper marketing 35m could have happened.

Even movies like John Carter are breakouts here. Because there were lots of TV, outdoor and indoor advertising from DisneyI'm sure with the right marketing strategy Hobbit could compete with Avatar here, but still same local WB partner will be releasing it and no records will be broken :(
