TLK
$350-375 million WW will be an okay number and the movie probably won't lose money. That must count as a win given how the movie was tracking a month ago. Right ?

tong kosong
EDGE OF TOMORROW fired up $37.4M overseas this weekend, $181M total. China alone has grossed nearly $50M. — Exhibitor Relations (@ERCboxoffice) June 15, 2014
The Dark Alfred
I seriously don't understand what were people's expectations regarding this movie. Come to rescue? It's a hit. Show me an original sci-fi that is the past 10 years that has done better than EoT? Show me a non-franchise, non-Oscar film that has done better? If it performs well in Japan, EoT have a really good shot at beating both Pacific Rim and Prometheus.

zackzack
^^ I feel that the budget all goes to Tom Cruise pocket/s. The movie looks like a $100M production. They keep re-using the same set over and over again. The rest is the same low-quality, fuzzy CGI you see in TASM2, MoS etc.
The Dark Alfred
That's the studio's fault. The numbers and film's performance over the globe are great. It was never gonna make 500m WW given its genre, so it's only disappointing for those who let it have such a high budget. If you take the budget aside for a sceond and look at the sheer numbers, it's doing extremely well for an original sci-fi.

Put in EoT in that list and compare the grosses.

Do you agree that a better release date could have allowed for better numbers?
keysersoze123
I disagree with Alfred. This is a big budget mainstream action movie. if it is limited to 400M WW, studio had no business keeping the budget at 178M. With marketing it needs HV to break even. We will know once warners report their quarterly earnings on impact of this one. Tom's WOTW was a benchmark to target considering OS markets have exploded since 2005. Avatar has shown Sci-fi has no limits. Inception is another film they showed how big the genre can be.
BK007
The $180m is with reshoots. If it didn't go overbudget, then we wouldn't be having this conversation. Who knows what the actual budget originally was.

RobinHood26
WB is kicking them selves. This is a could have possibly been a 500m grosser if they pushed it right.
The Dark Rock
WBPI’s Edge Of Tomorrow also knows a thing or two about being top of the class and will cross $200m outside North America heading into the weekend that saw it perched on $194.7m. http://www.screendaily.com/box-office/dragon-2-sniffs-intl-domination/5073375.article?blocktitle=LATEST-INTERNATIONAL-BOX-OFFICE-NEWS&contentID=40071
TLK
So $259 million WW going into the weekend. This movie deserves to make at least $350 million WW and it appears to be on track.
