If Disney didn't have Marvel and Avatar, you think they would EVER allow this kind of a pause for SW films? Nah Look at Sony and what happens when the entire company is basically just Spider-Man.. I don’t necessarily agree. There’s still Star Wars content, it was just Disney+ shows for their streaming service. The Disney/Fox merger didn’t lead to anything more innovative or creative, it just made them bigger. Plus there’s more to the business and mergers than just franchise films. 5 hours ago, Alexander said: I think they'll end up as a factory for streaming services. Basically what Skydance was doing for some time now. That’s probably for the best. Not every studio needs a streaming service. Paramount+ is janky and basically given away for free because they have few subscribers.

Paramount+ isn’t as widespread as Netflix or Disney+, but it’s available in far more countries.

Definitely showing the signs of a studio that's on its last days before a merger. The crazy thing is Sony / Columbia schedule is even worse. dudalb
God, that schedule is pathetic. For the Studio fo Cecil B De Mille and "The Godfather" to come to this.....

In the UK anyone with Sky Movies get Paramount Plus for free.

They seemingly remember what happened to Fox and decided to slow down their film output for a while until a clearer picture emerged. Luckily for them the lesser of two evils, Skydance, will likely take them instead of Zaslav, so they'll probably ramp their output back up in the months to come now that another Disney-Fox meltdown has been avoided. Good or not, at hopefully small budgets, these two can help boost Paramount's year.

filmlover
$14B is nothing compared to the $71B Disney bought Fox for. Edited January 31 by filmlover
MovieMan89
For some reason this thread took me to page 10 when I clicked, in 2017, and everyone in here was doom and glooming and talking about what a mess Paramount was even then. As I’ve said before, their acquisition has been a very long time coming
Human
Paramount Plus is bundles with Wal-Mart's service. I can confirm as a Walmart worker they give all of their employees Paramount Plus for free as a bonus to working there, thus that is a good sized amount of subscribers right there. Granted it is the version with ads, and Dad really loves giving them minutes watching their Smithsonian content.

crazymoviekid
Theory: What if Paramount is waiting to see how The First Omen does in deciding what to do with Apartment 7A? They're kinda similar as prequels to classic horror films from the 60s/70s (that no one quite asked for). Both could be easily sent to streaming. Paramount could be gaging the audience appetite for this type of film. After the success of Smile and Mean Girls (2024), I don't see why not! dudalb
Bidding war for Paramount under way? It's sad that a studio with a history like Paramounts is going for what is a Bargain Basement price tag. 11 Billion is a lot ot you and me, but for a major studio that is a fire sale price.
