wow they are desperate for some animated hits huh.

Probably saw how Puss and Minions sequels did compared to their original movies and figured that the market place is asking for franchise animated films.

Those sequels - that’s one way to get their audience used to coming out for their animated family movies I guess.  Desperate.

once the studio that only made major animated sequels if the stories were there.

You know damn well that "we only make sequels if we have a good story" statement was never true lmao

More funding for ABC (Sports, News, Unscripted and Scripted), Disney Channels, Nat Geo, FX and Searchlight with an emphasis on dual revenue streams (Broadcast, Cable and Theatrical respectively then Streaming) although there will still be certain titles that are streaming only

Bob Iger just mentioned this, said Abbott Elementary has a roughly 60 year old viewer vs. Hulu with 30 year old viewer. Best to monetise across multiple revenue streams especially if they are so radically different.

Although seems like general entertainment funding is going down some so might have been wrong with that part (or I misunderstood) or it changed.

it was once! Not that long ago!

I’m talking about Disney animation now. We had Rescuers Down Under, and then Frozen 2 and Ralph 2. That was it.

For them to announce they’re off and running on Zootopia and Frozen new sequels says everything about what Chapek has done.  They need to undo that audience behaviour and sequels is the obvious way to do that. I get it, but it is a shame.  Some great original stories probably sidelined for the time being because of what Chapek did.  You could guarantee people would come out for whatever they made animation wise for a couple of decades, and he screwed it. Iger will sort it out though, I’ve no doubt.
